I'm a big fan of the Whole-Lotta Humbucker set in my Les Paul. It is the most balanced, versatile and useful set I have ever tried in one. I also love the '59 set *except* for the fact that the bridge is a little underpowered, the highs can get brittle and thin, and the neck can be a tiny bit boomy. I love the Pearly Gates set as well, *except* for the fact that the neck is super warm, and the bridge is overly bright in comparison.
Wouldn't it be great if we could have an updated '59 set with a slightly less boomy neck, slightly hotter bridge with fuller highs, and a Pearly Gates set with a bridge that was darker/warmer to match the awesome PG neck? I'm sure it could be done. The Custom series and other higher powered humbuckers don't exactly scratch this itch...
