All these pics highlight the best features on the guitar right now. specifically the schaller locking tuners, new pickguard, re vamped hot rails in the bridge and a used quarter pounder I got for dirt cheap off some local dude. I'm still missing the wilkinson bridge, as well as a new neck pickup. the one in there now is nice...but I'd like something a little different.

the sanded areas are parts of the finish I'm working on. I need to buy higher grit sandpaper, which ive already located. :D

I had tinted the neck. the white square on the back is an area that was covered by a sticker, i put tape on it as to preserve the original colour.

That's pretty sexy looking!

What did you use to tint the neck? Did you ever get the hot rails sounding like it's supposed to?

I used brown Kiwi shoe polish.

the pics are down but its because I ran out of bandwith. they should be there starting may.

The Hot rails is working great now. I do seem to have a bad ground somewhere, but that doesnt bother me too much. I'll have it fixed soon, as I need it to be quiet like my other fenders though.

how are the locking tuners? Did you have to ream anything out or drill any holes for them to fit? I'd like some better tuners for all my shiiz but am terrible with a drill.

I'm sure other people have said this, but I think your tele looks great with the dings. All these people going around "relicing" guitars... i guess it's not so bad but it's so much better when you just play a guitar until it looks all kinds of f***er'd up

The locking tuners have really delivered. I did not modify the guitar at all. Keep in mind that these are the $75 USD Fender Schaller tuners, designed for use in a MIM or MIA standard stratocaster or telecaster. They hold their tuning really well. I heard and read a lot of comments about how locking tuners on a hard tail aren't very good, since it's not like my tuning is unstable anyway. To tell you the truth, my tuning is now rock solid. I never knew how much my guitars go out of tune until now. The important thing is to make sure the strings travel well through the nut. I used some graphite powder I found at Pep Boys. I'm sure you can pick this up at any automotive store. I thought about finding a nail polish that would work with the colour of my guitar, and paint the patches that color and refinish that, but in the end decided against it. I sealed the rough spots with plenty of Krazy Glue, and am sanding because I wanted a smooth fender relic kind of look, not the look of poly just falling off.

I forgot to mention: the tuners are shorter, which means they poke out less through the front of the headstock. I like this. I also like that they are considerably heavier than the stock Fender tuners, the tone feels different. It's amazing how a piece of wood can have so much potential yet not show it simply because of cheap hardware!

You can save money by using a pocket knife and a pencil.

That guitar looks good, but the black guard sits wrong on the wine color, to me*. That guitar is begging for a vintage pearloid guard, IMO.

*I used to have the same color, and the black just turns the lights out on it.

That pickguard had been white for nearly 10 years. i was dying to get a black one. :lmao: I like pearloid, but that just isnt the look I was going for.

All that you need now is a few Joe Strummer-style stickers. :D

One other observation. In the over the nut, towards the headstock shot, the string hole on the low E string head looks closer to the headstock face than the G and B heads. Is this an optical illusion or have you fitted the heads in the wrong order?

A side-on headstock shot would clear this up.

Yeah, unless my eyes are deceiving me, I think you put the pegs in the wrong order. The shortest one is supposed to be furthest from the nut.

whoopsy daisy.

ill get on this right away.

OK, so it goes 3 short ones on the treble strings, and the three tall ones on the bass side?

Re: Upgraded Telecaster (pics)

It won't look right until you've used it to smack your drummer at least once or twice.

You'll just have to explain to him that it's for the good of the band.

Re: Upgraded Telecaster (pics)

great Tele man, that thing's got mojo for sure. Does the QP work well with the hot rails?

I guess you could say the QP works well, yeah. they compliment each other in the sense that theyre both designed to be heavy hitters. It isn't exactly what I was looking for in a tele neck pickup, but its much better than the stock one.
