Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

If this is the sound I could get with the Bugera, I'm gonna definitely try it. I am aware that the sound from the clip is recorded, than compressed on youtube, than processed throug my speakers, but sounds very good. I personally like it.
Could you just please tell me if there is a headphone jack? Sometimes I have to use them so that my neighbors don't complain.. :gurmpy:

Is the a headphone jack anywhere?

Ok - having seen the current amp;

#1 Go with the Vox 30. Bigger speaker and 30 watts will be a HUGE improvement and the Vox modeling is pretty well respected.

#2 Still keep saving for the Blues Jr. When I go for tone, I go for a Pro Jr myself. However...You will be more than happy with a Vox modelling amp. (That is the AD30 isn't it???) There will be a perfectly usable (and better thank the current amop sound on there. Lots of them. Plus effects.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

Same thing... The main problem is the customs service. The web shops aren't. The customs rates are high, and aren't fixed, and are usually calculated depending on the mood of the customs officer. So the rates are sometimes normal, sometimes very high and sometimes low. But judging from the size of the thing (and the fact that for them it's an "exotic audio device")... probably gonna be high. But I'll check everything.
Also, I think that the shipping rates aren't cheap either. I'm form Serbia, Eastern Europe, and everything is a bit f**ked up.

Who makes those Bugera amps? I have seen that the company was founded in 2007?
Is it possible to plug in a pair of headphones at the back?

OK, I understand your dilema about shipping and customs. So sorry about that.

I don't believe there is a headphone jack in the back. I haven't seen many good tube amps with them until very recently.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

My Roland Cube sounds AWESOME through headphones!

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

GuitarDoc, Aceman thank you for your suggestions.
I am currenty leaning towards the Bugera. Like it a lot, just don't like the fact that I can't play with headphones.. (I'll have to find a solution to that. Thing is that I really need something to use when the neighborhood is asleep or resting in the afternoon. I could actually get fined if someone calls the cops)

They are giving a "good deal" on Fender's Super-Champ XD in one of the shops... 385 USD. In US, the thing is 300 USD, but everything here is more expensive.

I'll try the Cube also. I've heard a lot of good things about it.
I know that I'm mentioning a lot of different amps, but it's better to ask everything before acting.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

1)Yeah go with a modeler that fits the budget for now. My Roland MicroCube changed me from being a complete tube snob. A Blues Jr or something should still be a goal.

2) A good solid block trem does matter. Steel for traditional Fender tone, brass if its an excessively bright guitar.

3) SSL2's in the neck and middle and an Alnico 2 Pro Humbucker Bridge PU when the time comes.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

Ok, thanks.

I agree with you. The problem is this:
I would love to get any of the tube amps, but with a tight budget and, as I can see (...searched a million internet pages) no headphone jack... it's a bit unreal at the moment. In my case. I'm thinking to switch my goal and get something more usable. Maybe get a good mid range amp. Like some of you said. So hybrid (is it worth the money?) or just a good solid state?

I am afraid to buy a big tube-awesome-"love it" amp and then not to be able to use it's potential every day. That would mean buying something as a second amp to replace my cheap Yamaha solid state... which means more money... Which, at least now, is a big problem.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

Some folks of mine have recommended buying Roland's Cube 60... But not the new one with effects and stuff, instead, to go with the old model. I know that the Cube is not a tube amp, but I was told that, as far as solid state amps go, the old model has got some pretty good clean. And I found one for about 200 USD in the ads, in very good condition, and it is also "made in Japan". (because I was told to go either with Japaneses or US made amps)

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

Hi, mind if I also ask about upgrading the pacifica in this thread instead of create a new one??

I have the same exact color of the guitar just like you showed on the first post, but mine is 112VMX with maple fretboard.
I'm considering to upgrade my Pacifica, for the amp I'm using the tech 21 character series instead having a big amp. And so now I'm planning to change my pups and it's the same exactly as yours, thinking of changing the single coil for APS-1 neck and SSL-1 middle, then I found two versions of those pups whice are the staggered and flat. Which one fit the best for the pacifica neck and bridge??

for the humbucker pups, probably I'll go for APH-1 or Pearly Gates or 59 Model, still not sure enough to decide which one to pick. Anyone have an opinion about bridge pups for Pacifica?? And should I get the normal humbucker or a trembucker??
Thanks for the help

Ashurbanipal didn't know you were Serbian, or at least spoke it. My girlfriend is Serbian

To OP!

I recommend a new amp. If you take the pickup money and add it to your amp budget you can get a nice little tube combo. At the moment, I recommend a Laney VC-15. I have the VC-30, and it's not the same, but im sure it would be fantastic. I've also had a Blackstar HT-5, which I loved. I recommend it

You're gonna need a Trembucker for the F spacing and trem. I'd suggest a pearly gates. I really love the sound in a strat style guitar! If it doesn't work for you, buy an Alnico V magnet and swop out the Alnico II mag in the PG. then you have a rough equivalent of the PG+ found in fat strats and Lonestar strats which sounds great too.

PG+ is a good idea. Fender put them in their fat strats so there's no spacing issue to begin with. I think you can find a used one easily from online sellers. Combined it with APS2 or SSL2 (depends on your taste) since 112 has flat radius. Welcome Bandhi! Those Pacifica are good guitars.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

59b will be brighter in a guitar with a maple neck and an alder body; an A2 pup would be warmer - matter of taste. A dude I went to school with long ago had a Big Apple Strat (rosewood board), which had a PG in the bridge and it sounded pretty damn good.

I ain't; I'm a near neighbour ;). Your gf's name wouldn't be Tatjana, would it?

wow thanks a lot, but is there any stock PG+ that can be bought or should I buy the regular PG then upgrade it manually by changing the magnet into A5??
Well looks like it came to the conclusion that I'll go for APS-2 for neck and SSL-2 for middle. My next concern is about this humbucker pup that related to the pots of my pacifica. The other difference between Pacifica 112J and 112V is the tone knob which is using a 500K push/pull pot, and I'm planning to change into 250K to get a better single coil tone.. My questions are:

1. Do I have to change both volume & tone knob into 250K??
2. Does PG have 4 conductor wire?? Does it do well on 250K pot??
3. So PG+ and PG is just the same size isn't it? No problem using the regular humbucker size to fit in my Pacifica??

So sorry if the questions are so basic, now I'm on my way in learning these electronics of my guitar.
Thanks for the help and response. :)

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

The PG+ can be purchased … through Fender.

Spec-wise, the difference is more than just a magnet swap. Yes, the cable is 4-con + shield. The pickup goes perfectly on an A250k volume pot. Remember, it was created for Fender! Despite this, the polepiece spacing is 2.25" - traditional Gibson spacing! I used to own a Fender hardtail Big Apple Stratocaster. The E strings were as loud as the other four.

Re: Upgrading stock Yamaha Pacifica 112J

Well it seems to be hard to get SSL-2 and APS-2 in my place, since the dealer of SD in my country didn't get it stocked.
Would it be a problem if I go with the staggered version for my flat radius neck?? Does the volume difference will be greater between strings??
