Upgrading the Epiphone G-1275 Doubleneck SH-1 Pickups!

Hey everyone, pleasure to make my first post here, love the forum!

I recently finished the upgrading process of my Epiphone G-1275 Doubleneck guitar (the cherry red one).

Now, I know I'll never escape the fact that this guitar is made of a mahogany laminate, but I've tried to de-Epiphone the guitar as much as possible. Many of us look at guitars with upgrade already in mind, perhaps because it's a good deal..maybe it plays great but the pickups are weak. Or the guitar is perfect except the tuners aren't ideal.

I made this video to show people what's possible when you upgrade these guitars. This is especially the case with this doubleneck, who's Gibson counterpart is $6499 on sweetwater. All said and done, with all of the upgrades this guitar has cost me around $2000 CDN.

The 12-string has been replaced with Seymour Duncan SH-1 Neck and Bridge pickups. Sounds fantastic! Threw Gibson 498T/490R in the 6-string.

Love those 59's!

I hope people get some insight and enjoy the video. Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum.

Nice talk-through on the upgrades. I played one of these many years ago - weighed like a mill stone.

Also, love your little Marshall!

You have done a lot of upgrading. I like to run the 12 side clean with the volume knob around 6. 1st thing I did was replace the pickups as they were horrid. I had some old Gibson Tim Shaw's I put on the 12 side and 490/498 on the 6 side and swapped the magnets. The 490 with an A5 reduces the mud that can be associated with this pup. My tuners and switches are functional but not the best as you pointed out. I was lucky to find mine in 2014. It was played a few times and put away in a box kept under the guys bed. Still had life left on the original strings and mint cond. It is the 18th one off the line from the 1st year of production. I don't play it much though.

I've always (like going back to 1999) wanted a 1275 and do the same as you have done. Enjoy. :)

I did much the same when I bought my Epi Doubleneck in `95. Upgraded tuners pots, caps, wiring, nut, pickups. Later I added a tone-pros bridge to the 6 string neck. Wish they'd have come out with a 12 string one. Heavy sucker, but oh so much fun.

Very nice indeed. I wish there was a double neck with 2 six string necks. It would be so handy to switch between alternate or open tuning to standard tuning
