I have been trying to install a neck pickup for my telecaster, but I cannot get the pickup to sound. I have soldered it during all day, the thing is that some times it sounds and sometimes i doesn´t, as soon as I screw the control plate there is no sound, I don´t know what to do.

I´d apreciate any help.

Thank you

Make sure nothing is grouning out when you put the control plate back on.Make sure you don't have any sloppy solder blobs touching were there not supposed to.
Do you have an ohm meter??

It really sounds like a short go ground. Double check your solder joints, and make sure you have nothing touching that metal plate.

Did you overheat the switch? Cheaper ones with lot of plastics could cut out randomly after that. Then you need a new one.

I had this happen in a SG that I put push-pulls in. The cavity on a SG isn't very deep and the cover fits very snug with push-pulls. Something shorted out every time I put the shielded cover plate back on (grounding out). I put a piece of thin bubble wrap over the pots, and everything is fine.

^^ this goes in the vein of what I was thinking, if you´re using "fullsize" pots like CTS or pots with piggyback switches, make sure the pot´s size isn´t causing a shorting issue when replacing the cover.

Because if everything works fine when the cover is unscrewed, it´s not the wiring ;)
