Urgent Tube Question

I have a bad TAD EL-34B STR power tube... Can I replace the bad tube with a Ruby or Svetlana EL-34 as a bandaid until I can pick-up a matched set of new tubes?? The reason I ask is that the TAD tubes look MUCH different than the other EL-34s I have laying around.

In all honesty, yes you can...but watch for "red plating" (where the tube actually starts to glow red hot internally). If this happens try a different tube.

Obviously this is not ideal "operating conditions", but it should work if it's what you have to do.

Ok for a quick fix. Go to www.revolutionguitar.com and order some JJ EL-34's, and you'll be hooked up for low dollars. I've found those to sound great for my amps, although I prefer GT 12AX7C's for pre's. That combo always sounds great for EL-34 amps.
