USA 1983 Fender Bullet S2 Problems

Hi everyone I am a newbie, be good to me please !
I recently purchased an 83 Fender Bullet S2, it plays so well & has such a good neck that I use it as my 2nd guitar. I play in a funk band & my sound is blues/jazz based, I use a marshall TSL 122, the clean sound on the Bullet is lovely, vintage & great for funk chords & chops. The problem I have is when I use any gain on the amp ie both crunch & lead channels, the hum I get is quite loud, some have suggested that this is normal for single coils. I have looked inside the Bullet to check the wiring & contacts, it all appears ok. Just to let you know my main guitar is a 77 Les Paul dble cut with single coil P90's & they are almost silent in comparison, they cause no problems at all on high gain settings.

I have considered changing the pick ups on the Bullet, any advice would be great, how can I get round the hum without compromising that lovely vintage tone ?

Assuming all is well with the electronics, try shielding the control cavity, pup cavities and pickguard first. My Bullet got that mod when the Custom went in 20+ years ago. If that does not improve it to your liking, look into Vintage Stacks. Search the forum before buying. There is a lot of info, experiences and opinions available here - free of charge!

p.s. I know what you mean about the neck on the Bullet.
