USA made Strings

Re: USA made Strings

You mean they wear out? Completely unlike all other brands?

If you look at any string thread, you’ll see all the same comments, with every brand in place of the other.

YES completely unlike other brands

I used to flip and fix guitars as a little side business

Near EVERY time i ran across a guitar or bass that by all rights should have been quite nice, but sounded ****e, it'd have these totally rusted out and rect strings...and when I cut em off and set it up with DRs or even bargain bin EBs, itd be a winner again

And at some point I noticed, EACH time the ball ends in my trash can would have the color coded D'Addario ball ends...

Hell it even happened with basses. And proper bass strings really dont even need changing, just cleaning or a good solvent wash

Other strings can get nasty, but D'Addario has some special LEVEL of nasty, and it gets there a lot faster.

PS i like fresh strings but am no string change fanatic, I got guitars that have the same strings on em for years.

Re: USA made Strings

I don’t know if D’addario actually has their own factory.
I’m a truck driver and one of my stops is a place called Millard Wire....they ship to D’addario several times a week.
D’addario “may” in fact have a wire making facility....I don’t know, but I can tell you at least some of their wire is outsourced.

D’Addario not only has their own factory, but are the largest suppliers of strings. Millard is a distributor of nickel so that makes sense.

If I recall correctly, both Gibson and Fender now use D’Addario for strings. Fender since 2011 and Gibson since 2009.

Not to mention all the string brands, american and non, that actually are D'Addarios in a different package. ;)

I’ve used their strings for decades. No such issues. Then again, I don’t judge strings by someone else’s usage. Also, your statement that “proper bass strings don’t need changing” shows me that our criteria for strings is vastly different.

Same here, I want my strings to last for at least 3 months while sounding good both elixir and daddario do that, however daddarios sound better to me and can handle whammy bar bends and aggressive better than the elixirs despite the fact elixirs feel better and last about 6 months before going dead as opposed to 3 months for the daddario NYXL.
If I look after the strings I get 4 months from daddario in winter, and 3 in summer
If I don’t I get 3 months in winter and 1.5 in summer approximately.
I get vaguely double the lifespan from Elixirs.
I get about half the life span from Ernie Ball Paradigms
I get similar lifespan from Cleartone.
Best sound: Daddario NYXL
Best strength: NYXL/Ernie Ball Paradigm tie
Best range of gauges:NYXL
Best lifespan:Elixir
Best feel:Elixir
All of these strings are USA Made but are very different I’ve also played rotosound which are decent and a decent rival to standard Ernie ball slinkies.
I will probably get DR strings a go eventually.

Just because D’Addario makes the Strings doesn’t mean they are exactly the same as a package of XLs. The company may specify a different set of specs for the strings (alloy, core and wrap gauges, hex/round shape, wind, etc.) Now the plain Strings pretty much are all the same except for the ball end wind. ;)

Dunlop for example use heavier cores from what I recall

Re: USA made Strings

Curt Mangan Strings are made in Cortez, Colorado. I don't know where they get their wire from, but their spiel is Made in USA by a small company. I like their customer service and they have great strings.

I've been using Curt Mangans couple of years. Really like them.

I guess that's why they sound duller than other strings. At least was my impression when I had them.
