Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if the USA Wolfgang pups have 2 or 4 Conductor leads?

all wolfgang pups(USA and EXP) have 4 wire and are the same except the EXP ones are wound in korea but use USA parts.
the USA ones are wound by hand in the USA at peavey :)

Re: USA Wolfgang pups?

Thanks RG,

BTW, I haven't read any of your requests for some fresh VHoholic VH covers for a while :)

Re: USA Wolfgang pups?

Not exactly. I have had a set of the exp pickups. They measure something like 15 ohms on the neck pickup and like 14 ohms on the bridge pickup. My american wolfgang measures 7.55 ohms on the neck and the bridge. Both sets of pickups sound very similar somehow. I could not tell much if any difference though.

I think you're measuring wrong. The Wolfgang pickups should measure 17k at the neck, 14k at the bridge. The reason for the higher reading at the neck is that it is wound differently than the bridge pickup. I believe the neck and bridge models are wound with a different wire gauge. It sounds like you're only measuring one coil of the pickup.

Re: USA Wolfgang pups?

Ryan,
Those are my readings. both coils are working fine when I plug in the guitar. The only thing I can think of is, The exp pickups are wound more or My pickups came from the factory wired in parallel. Both of my pickups read equal at 7.55 on the american. I cant recheck the exps because I have already sold them

I know it is not one coil because I dont hear any 60 cycle hum and I can tap on a pole piece of each of the coils and it sounds strong on each coil when hooked up to an amp.

Re: USA Wolfgang pups?

Hmm, that's bizarre...you did follow the correct wiring color codes, right? If not, it's possible that you got a reading with the coils in parallel. Both pickups should be in the 14-17k range, 7.55 is much too low.

Re: USA Wolfgang pups?

I had that onm range on the imports. The american and the exports dont sound that much different though. It may be paralell. I should pop off the cover and try some things.

Re: USA Wolfgang pups?

If you're measuring them while they're in the guitar, it's possible that the other parts in the circuit are causing the reading to be be off. I know this happens with pots if you measure them when they're already installed. When measured outside the guitar, they should be 14k for the bridge, 17k for the neck.
