i have a 2X12 combo with a guitar input and a random 1/4 inch input for whatever. i wanna know how i can make this second input bypass all the amp stuff and go straight to the speakers so i can run a head through them

I got this adaptor that has a 1/4 on each end. Suing a cord I have used my combo speaker bypassing the amp

the combo is a crate solid state with two 8 ohm speakers. its open backed as well. i currently just unplugg one of the speakers from the combo and put it in the "8 ohm" jack of my head. I really wanna use it as a full on cab though.

its an epi valve jr head. the outputs are 4, 8, and 16 ohms
the combo is a solid state crate GX140D, this particular model is not listen anywhere on Crate's website, not even the vintage gear section. it seems like an early/mid 90's amp.

I'm not sure if your amp would accomadate this, but here's a simple little "mod" you can do that would add some additional flexibility. I'm assuming from what you say that the speaker already has a 1/4" plug that goes into the amp's 1/4" jack.
Drill two holes to mount two more 1/4" jacks a couple inches from each other. Remove the plug from the speaker cable end and solder it to one. Add a short piece of cable with a 1/4" plug to the other and plug it into the amp.
Now, use a short jumper to connect those two together. Any time you want, you can remove the jumper and either run the amp to an external cab, or run the speaker from an external amp - like you want.
If you do this, be sure not to use one of those little "effects pedal" jumpers for the connector. Make one using speaker wire of the same gauge as your cab uses now. I now its a little work, but it would make the combo more versatile.

it probably is wired in 4 ohms and chances are that there is no 1/4 inch plug for the speakers. A friend of mine had a GFX212 combo and this was the case with that amp.
it's still possible to do what artie's saying but then you have to open the amp and remove wiring from the board and solder it to a jack. solder another section of 2 conductor cable to the place where you just removed the original cabling from and connect the other end to another jack. from there, use a jumper as artie described to use the combo as a combo and remove the jumper and use a standard speaker cable to hook up to the valve jr 4 ohm jack.
the combo will be open back too.
