Used Les Pauls on eBay

My goodness, I'm suprised! I thought that used Studios would be going for $800 and up, but several are around $500. However, I'm also shocked to see how many headstocks have broken, and how many people abuse the hell out of their Pauls.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

Too many broken LP's out there.... that headstock design is so easy to break... all the LP has to do is fall out of a stand and the headstock hits the floor at the perfect angle to break it.... I find it awful that a lot of nice looking 70's Les Pauls i have seen over the last year at Toronto area stores have had neck repairs..... and they still think they can ask $2000 for an Early 70's LP with neck repairs!!!!! 10 years ago i past on a 70's custom that had the neck broken for $500.... should of bought it.... it was repaired well too... Looked like Randy Rhoads guitar.... i also past on a mid 70's LP Deluxe that had no finnish left on it.. i should of bought it and refinnished it

I almost think that gibson does that on purpose. Y'know the ol' "we don't make money if a product lasts forever" kinda deal.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

There's some great deals to be had on there. I bought all 5 of my Gibson Les Pauls off of Ebay at fantastic prices.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

I don't complain about Gibson's prices because I've never bought one new.
I've had 11 Gibson Les Pauls, and always paid roughly half of what they went for brand new........and all of them looked new.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

I wouldn't mind snagging a used LP Studio off Ebay eventually, if it's at the right price and in decent shape.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

I got my LP Classic off of ebay for about half of what they go for new. Killer guitar at a great price!

Used is the way to go in a lot of cases.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

Well I need another axe to downtune for my band, and I'm leaning towards a Les Paul, whether it be a genuine Gibson or a knockoff like Agile or Tokai. I had planned on going with Agile and replacing the pickups, but that'd come out to $500-$600 depending on shipping, if I buy the case, and if I install LiveWires. I've seen some used Gibson Studios going for around that much with the case and often with EMGs or Duncans.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

After buying my SG X off of Ebay I don't think I'll ever buy new again. You just have to be careful and read in detail about the guitar and ask many questions.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

I pummel the hell out of my LPs.

That being said, I've only snapped one headstock on a Gibson made guitar, but I've owned a few that have had headstock repairs.

Gibson's response to the headstock breaking issue was to decrease the angle behind the nut and add a volute to strengthen that area- and it wasn't popular with players. They then also changed the neck to a 3 ply lamination of maple.

A good repair can be stronger than it originally was.

Yup as long as the repair is a good one it will hold... My Epis both have broken headstocks and they still play well......

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

Speaking of Gibsons costing so much new i could never afford one.... Used LP's are the best i can hope for! And there is a few nice ones out there.....

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

I dont mind buying used...but if it's something I cannot return, I'd HAVE to play it first....especially Paulas where they vary in tone...some have *that* sound, others are more middy and/or lack low end.

I've sold alot of stuff on ebay though, and I don't keep anything for long if the tone is not good .I generally buy online due to lack of good dealers in my area (and the return policy), so if the tone is not there, it goes right back... so a crap toned guitar would never end up on ebay in the first place from me personally.

I also suspect that the ones up on Ebay that are "beat" or have been owned a long time, are good guitars, otherwise the owners would have sold them along time ago as well.

Used Historics and Hamers are the only things I'd consider buying from ebay.

Re: Used Les Pauls on eBay

I gotten my 57' reissue pre-owned too.
Cuz it looks new, plays with, no repairs and almost ½ the price of the original.
The beauty of it is that its a custom authentic

I'll further look to either ebay or some places which sells pre-owned Gibsons now
