I'm assuming it is but I need help from the PRS experts here. I've never played one until today while at my local music store. Rosewood neck with dot inlays, 2 humbuckers (exposed coils. Stock?), volume, tone (with push/pull), 3-way selector switch, tremelo bridge and locking tuners. The body was'nt real thick which surprised me, color was kind of a dark blue over what appeared to be maple top, as the grain was running across the top. This guitar has definatley been played. Dings on the body as well as on the head, buckle-rash...a players guitar. Felt like it needed a slight truss rod adjustment due to a bit of fret buzz around the middle of the neck, but the frets themselves appeared to have little wear. It felt very sturdy and played like a dream come true. My God did it play!! I don't know if the neck is considered to be the fat-wide type, but it did feel just a bit wider than the neck on my Strat. Radius was a bit flatter too. I'm gonna think about it tonight because I don't like to jump at things that I don't know much about (like a PRS), especially when you're talking about an expensive purchase. As mentioned the store is asking $1,099 w/case. So, what's the jurys verdict?

The price would lead me to believe that it' a CE model....a bolt on neck. Can you confirm that for me?
If it is a CE, and is in somewhat rough shape as you indicate, then I think the price may be a tad high. I see CE's go on eBay in much better described condition with a case for the same $$ or less.
However, the most important thing is that you have played it and loved it. If it feels that good then it's worth the $$. You are taking a chance when buying on eBay. I've had great luck so far, but lots of people get burned with poor sounding guitars. If you really like the guitar, bargin with them. Point out that it needs a setup and play up the fact that it has some damage. Make sure you have $$ to bargin with, and make sure they know it. Cash is king. They may come off the price some, or may offer to throw in a top notch setup, which is probably worth $100 or so.
I'd be interested to know if it's a CE. If it's a CU22 or McCarty, I'd snatch it up in a hurry.

How many frets, 22 or 24?
Trem or wrap around bridge?
Rosewood NECK or a rosewood fretboard? Big difference as the rosewood necks are usually quite expensive.Mike M. said:

Sorry, I forgot to mention it's a bolt on neck. When I said rosewood neck I meant the fretboard. The bridge is the tremelo type. Number of frets? Hmmm, now I feel stupid because I did'nt notice that. Again as mentioned this is the first PRS I've played so any other info would be very helpful.

Jeff was right, sounds like a CE model. Good guitars, they run about $1500 - $1600 new and anywhere from $800 - $1300 used.

Still a great guitar, but if it's a little rough condition wise I think you need to try and negotiate a slightly better deal. With that said, and if I really, really liked the guitar, I would not pass it up for a couple hundred dollars. The aggravation of trying other guitars and waiting on mail order for an unknown quality guitar is worth that to me.
I'd buy it if it spoke to me the way you say...I'd just try to negotiate my best deal. You'll still have a hell of a guitar regardless.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've been a faithful customer at this music store for years and have never asked for a deal. So maybe they'll cut me a bit of slack due to some of the cosmetic flaws if I decide to go for it. We'll see what happens. If I decide not to buy it maybe I'll buy that DRRI that I was playing thru. Damn GAS!!

Wow, that's like being a faithful car customer and paying the dealership sticker every time. Never pay sticker, always negotiate, new or used. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't. And they know it too, they expect it. I too am a regular at a boutique shop, and not only do I not pay sticker, but I get even better pricing because I've been a faithful customer at their store.Mike M. said:

At least as was said, have them do a pro set-up with your string choice. As a full time gigging musician who has used PRS for years, they are wonderful guitars.
