Using both channels on Super Reverb

Since I don't own an ABY box, I can't just try this, but...

I'm thinking it might sound cool to run a splitter after my pedals, take one side straight into the second channel on my Super, and take the other into my Radial Plexitube into the Super's first, otherwise unused, channel. I know it wouldn't be the same as running into a Marshall and a Fender, but maybe i'd get some of that vibe? Think it's worth buying an ABY box to try?

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

I could be wrong, but unless you’ve modded your SR and put reverb on both channels, they’ll be out of phase and sound thin when combined.

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

I have not modded it, but am interested in doing so. I like how it sounds currently, but I’d be happier if it sounded better :) Will probably blackface it, maybe I’ll look into the phase thing, too.

One of the local dudes has a stack of BF SRs, and the one he gigs with had some really cool stuff done to it. Channel 1 is modded to sound like an old Marshall, and 2 had something Dumbley done to it. He jumps them, and it sounds amazing.

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

I think the first mod should be to blackface it, and if you don't like it, you probably just don't like the way a Super Reverb sounds.

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

From my memory, the Super Reverb is literally (historically speaking) the cleanest of all Fenders -it's definitely a taste thing.... it even makes a Twin seem a little nasty.

That's definitely not the case at all. Like I said, I'm happy with the amp, but I'm always looking for ways to get happier.

I don't know about that... If no one is home and I can get mine up to about 7 or 8, it gets pretty raunchy. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty loud, but getting similar breakup from a Twin would be a bit louder, given it's roughly double the wattage.

Also, I have V1 pulled, and replaced the PI with that 12AX7. That gets it to breakup a little earlier than if both channels are active.

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

the two channels are out of phase and the normal channel has one less stage of gain than the vibrato channel. i modded the hell out of the normal channel on my old bf dr including taking out the tone controls since there is a bunch of loss that happens there, it sounds great but is still out of phase so its one or the other, not both at once

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

Just get an ABY box with a phase reverse switch on it to combine the channels. I would rather do that then mod the amp.

Agree. that's what I would do until you decide you love it. Phase flip is about the simplest MOD you can do to an amp if you decide to make it integrated in the AMP

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

Considering I need an ABY box anyway, this is what I’ll do. Thanks!

Now you have an excuse to buy this beautiful thing

I have no idea what I would do with that thing but I want it. Lmao

Ha. I know right. It allows you to strategize your true- bypass and buffer Pedal chains, A/B switching, Phase, Boost, Tuner and Expression handles. They call it a "Pedal Board Reconciler" but I would use it to communicate with my pedal board back at my amp and ONLY have it and a tuner in front of me.

From Earthquaker

Swiss Things™
Pedalboard Reconciler
Swiss Things™ combines two true-bypass Flexi-Switch™ enabled effects loops, a Flexi-Switch™ AB-Y box with transformer isolation between outputs, a buffered tuner output, 20dB of clean boost with adjustable gain, an expression pedal output for volume control and a quiet, high headroom output buffer into a compact pedalboard-friendly signal routing junction box that lives at the top-right corner of your pedalboard and really ties your rig together without any signal loss.

This is what you can do with it:

Use as many pedals as you’d like without tone-suck

Quickly and easily bypass or engage all of your effects with one click

Use Flexi-Switch™ Technology with every pedal in your setup

Eliminate volume pedal tone-suck by using any expression pedal to control volume

Use multiple amps without phase issues, ground loops, or extra noise

Tidy up your rig, shorten cable runs, and reduce tone loss by keeping all inputs and outputs in one location

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

radial twin cities is an active aby with phase reversal, they also have a passive big shot aby. lehle makes good stuff too.

i have a passive aby which is ok, but i use the twin city to combine the channels from time to time. works like a charm

Re: Using both channels on Super Reverb

Speaking from someone who has been using all kinds of fender amps for decades and tried pretty much everything incuding using switchers, multiple amps, preamps and god knows what else I would like to give you some advice to help you enjoy your playing more: stop chasing rainbows. Just use the one channel and find the best dirtbox you can find for your dirty sound. No need to make life so complicated.

I second the Twin Cities switcher, it is great and not too expensive.

... but I wanna hear a Fender sound and a Marshally sound at the same time.
