I will get one soon, found one to a ridiculous price, as I in general like A2 pickups I just wondered if anyone was using theirs in strat scalelenght guitars?

I had one in the neck of a double fat strat, paired with a CC in the bridge. I left it for quite a while, but ultimately replaced it with an APH. It had a great clean voice, and a great mild dirty blues/rock voice. It just didn't quite have the clarity under higher gain that I wanted...there was always a little bit of that sizzle there.

Other than that, it was a great pickup. Don't care for the bridge version however.

I have it in the bridge of my Strat. It's a very good pickup, but I agree with the lack of clarity assessment. I am thinking of replacing it with a 59. The PG suits some styles very well, others not so much.

Clarity??
Well that does not explain much;)

It has an upper mid hump that is great for leads, not so great for rhythm. Chords and arpeggios tend to sound a bit sloppy as a result. Does that help you?

I usually use the other pickups for rhythm work anyway, so it doesn't really bother me. I still think I'd prefer a 59 though.

I found it way to bright in the bridge(havent tried in the neck) it just ****ing hurt then again i really hate bright bridges and i thought a a2 bridge would be great well i was wrong

You need to make yourself a PGB/Custom A2 Hybrid or use the 59B coil...Unless you've already tryed this?

The best of a 59 and a CC but you get great note articulation, more balls, and more harmonics....The pickup also cleans up very well and yet retains all the nice highend attributes of the stock 59B....I feel the A2 magnet is perfect in the bridge....

Re: Using Pearly Gates in strat like guitars??

Nah I am going to keep this one stock, it is for my dark and fat Kramer:D
So the upper mids are not going to bother me, guess that I am old fashioned enough to not give much about tight pickups, which I rather despise to a certain degree so it is ok.
And I like topended stuff, sounds like that it would suit my guitar just fine.
thanks for the inputs guys:)

Re: Using Pearly Gates in strat like guitars??

I got a pair for a song when Mars closed. I had them in a PV EXP and they were fantastic in that axe. That is a purely midi guitar now so I put the stock stuff back in it. I see no problem with them in a strat style instrument.

Re: Using Pearly Gates in strat like guitars??

I ended up installing a PG in a clients mohogony body strat. Sounded great. I don't see any problem with the PG in a strat bridge position. The PG seems to handle a wide variety of music and still sound very good clean and dirty.

I tryed a DMZ Fred first and it sounded pretty darn good. The PG sounded perhaps a bit more open and "vintage". About the same output. I did put in a .050 tone cap after trying the PG, instead of the usual .022. 500K pots were used even with SC's in the neck and middle.

Fender used to put A5 loaded PG's in their fat strats, but I like the A2 PG better in a strat bridge position.
