Using Your Amp's (Natural) Distortion

Re: Using Your Amp's (Natural) Distortion

I actually do the opposite of most instead of slamming the front end of my Marshall I have gotten the best tone I've ever heard by plugging directly into the effects loop return jack only and slam the power section with a MXR Micro amp half way and a Marshall BBII pedal BOOST function on 3/4 volume ,amp cranked, with a touch of compression/sustain and a EQ bypassing the pre-amp stage altogether and it gives me a nice power tube break up that is by far the best sound I ever heard doing this system into a 40watt Marshall DSL and a 4x12 Marshall cabinet. So its no OD and Distortion just clean boosting the power stage of the amp.

Re: Using Your Amp's (Natural) Distortion

I started with the idea of clean SS amp with lot of headroom for dist/od pedals on top but that was not good enough, I tried the valve distortion and that is when I really started to enjoy my sound. Now I know valve at edge of breakup gives a warm but clean usable tone that can interact with dist/od pedals much better.
