V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

Anyone here familiar with the pearly gates models from V Picks? I love my regular small pointed both tonally and for playability but the clicky/chirpy qualities do get on my nerves during clean parts. I read one person say that the pearly gates was a slightly less chirpy sounding material but I've only heard of one person mentioning that and would love some more opinions before buying 10 of these things.

I had the same experience as you...really loved the pick, but holy cr@p it was hard to avoid the chirping. Caused me to stop using it

Same here, love the feel of it but the chirp caused me to ditch 'em.

Is it kind of like ultex? I use those for the grip, but the grittiness does seem to come through in the strings. I actually like that sound, but they blend in to carpet so I always end up losing them.

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

No, it's like a cricket chirp...it's hard to avoid consistently and, while the picks feel great, the "chirp" grates on your ears after a while.

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

Definitely not the same chirp from picks made of softer material. I really hope the pearly gates models are a little better because I'm right on the edge of not being able to tolerate it.

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

I thought about getting one of those picks, but I've heard that the pick noise on those is horrendous.

Ultex has a lot less, IMO, so I stick to those.

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

Ultex picks sound like pissing on cardboard. Kinda disqualifies em for me. Pity cause they wear nice and slow and feel okay.

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

Thin low end and harsh upper mids without the slightest boost in articulation whatsoever. Abrasive, anemic and vulgar at the same time. :thumbsdow

I have a batch of the Hetfield "Black Fang" Ultex picks and don't experience this issue to a big degree

Edit: I still prefer the Tortex stuff over the Ultex, though

I'm a long time V-Pick user and I embraced the chirp long ago. If you don't like the chirp, try a Ghost Rim or Smokey Mountain pick.

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

I used V-Picks for some time a few years ago but switched to Gravity Picks, never did try the Pearly Gates but I see they've got a PG Screamer - might have to try those out.

Wow, how did Randy Rhoads ever get bye with just a Fender medium!

Re: V picks pearly gates and the "chirp"

IIRC the Pearly is like a sparrow vs a robin. The chirp is less pronounced. I loaned my V and gravity picks to some buds to try out and havent recd them all back. (Guess they like em....) What stinks is that I got my least favorite ones back.. haha The Pearly did not return home. So, as I said, IIRC it was not so chirpy. I would recommend buying 1 to try instead of 10.. : ) If I had mine back, Id send it to you to try..

Thanks for the kind gesture! Unfortunately I'm in Canada and just can't justify the shipping cost of one pick. Especially at this exchange rate. I do think I would like a slightly softer version of my current small pointed.. I think I'll get maybe 6 pearly ones and 4 clear ones

I use the black Ultex Jazz III's and never had a problem with it.
