V-Picks – Thoughts?

Have tried several and decided to buy a couple (Screamer, Small Pointy and Diamond.) The descriptions seemed very interesting, but I have to say for the Diamond they were dead on when they said it was a fast pick. Really glides over the strings, no bite at all–I could see guys who do a lot of sweep arpeggios loving this pick. The Screamer (also known as the Acoustic) was the best sounding on my acoustic, played nicely on my Tele. The Small Pointy was great for the electric and sorta meh on the acoustic.

Overall, I am pleased with the new picks. However, I still prefer my picks made from vinyl records, especially on the acoustic.

Your thoughts on V-Picks? Picks in general?

Haven't had the pleasure/opportunity.

I'll stick w/teh Jazz III-styles...

I use the Tradition UL its just right for the marshall highs not too bright, way better then the yellow tortex! Ultex is my second favorite. The tradition was just a bit bright for my tones, pearly gates was pretty cool he sent free

I'll remedy that!

Interesting info man. And I would agree, much better than the tortex IMO.

I dig them, and glad we have options! lol

it kind of stick to the finger without falling. Use them for my gypsy stuff.

I'd be interested to try them. I am pretty sensitive about picks, though. So much that I've changed twice in over 30 years. But I always try to see if I like something better.

I love the grip and feel, but dislike the acrylic chirp. The Jalapeño and Saga are in my mandolin pick box.

I like them. I kinda went hog-wild last year and bought a bunch of V-Picks, mostly thicker ones. I love the Screamer for acoustic, and the Red Rocker for electric. The 4.0mm picks make you very aware of your pick and arm action.

And another one to try is a stone pick from Stoneworks Guitar Picks. Really beautiful, and very, very fast.

Yes. I use the tradition 2.75s. Excellent picks. Loud, present, punchy and fast. I got hooked on them pretty quick.

They are well made, last forever and feel great both on your fingers and across the strings but that hyper CHIRP on the attack drives me NUTS.

Been using them for years and can't get along with anything else anymore. I have a handfull and keep track of them, but not even sure which model they are since there's so many now. I use a normal size, kinda think with mildly pointed tips.

V-Picks are all I've used since 2007. I love 'em! Best. Picks. EVAAAR!!!

I had a couple and loaned em out and didnt get them back. (guess liked em...) So, bought a few diff ones to try (and some gravity picks.) I like the Screamer and PG. I have a Switchblade, but its too pointy for me that I strike the strings too hard. I think it would be great if I has shred chops and need that kind of accuracy in my picking. Also have a 1984 to try, but its too thick for my comfort. I like them, but cant give up my JAZZ III Carbon Fibers.

I've been shying away from "premium picks" but would love to get recommendations.

I've been using Jazz IIIs since the 90s. First the red nylon ones, then carbon fiber then tortex. I use to mix them up but pretty much stuck to those.

Recently I've felt that they've been slippery (turning sideways mostly) and they've felt small. I've been using big stubbies (the big purple see through ones) but would love to get recommendations. I play mostly jazz, a fair amount of arpeggios/sweeps and tend to prefer pointy picks but I'm open.

From this it sounds like the diamond might work well?

Re: V-Picks – Thoughts?

Possibly. picks are so subjective. IMO, more so than nearly any aspect of playing. With pickups, people can describe tonal characters in certain types of guitars. picks, its all feel. Thickness, texture, shape. I played with diff pics for a long time. Found orange Dunlop Tortex's and thought that was it..Then red Jazz IIIs....IT..Then Eric Johnson Jazz IIIs.....IT... Then Max Grip Carbon Fiber Jazz III's. Currently IT. So, I can only suggest trying one (or some) to see if it trips your trigger.

I loved V-Picks but ultimately moved on because of the "chirp". i find Chicken Picks to be similar in how they glide across the strings with much less chirp. I also use Dunlop PrimeTones for some things.

I got the V-picks back out and found I like them on electric guitar more than I do mandolin. The chirp seems to be more noticeable on acoustic instruments. Now I'm loading up a shopping cart on their site with another half-dozen or so that I don't have.

Try the Tradition UL very smooth top end and not bright like the others, similar to a fender medium
