V2 fender mustang 3

Re: V2 fender mustang 3

Given sound quality, simple interface and sheer tonal performance, I strongly believe that the Boss Katana 100 is a better value than even an older v2 Mustang III, especially moving forward.

Of course, that's just my personal opinion. Having recently acquired a KTN-100 and being totally blown away like so many others (I've played all of the Mustangs, too), I'm probably a bit biased. :)

If you're dead-set on getting a Fender, the last-gen Mustang III v2 is a really great sounding and highly flexible amp. In fact, many hardcore Fender fans still prefer the last-gen Mustang III's over the new Mustang GT offerings.

You should reach out to user Lewguitar here on the forums. He's a big fan of the Mustang III and can probably give you some insights.

You should also check out the user channel for "intheblues" on Youtube. He's a long-time Mustang III fan, but got to borrow a friends Katana and made a few videos about it (HINT: He loves his Mustang, but he was blown away with the Katana once he spent some time with it!)

If I remember correctly, he also did a comparison between his III and a new Mustang GT. It's definitely worth a watch!

Well I love mine, don't gig with it but I would without much hesitation.

There are so many great sounds to be had out of the Mustang. I've only scratched the surface really but old school Fender-y Rock N Roll sounds are cake with this thing.

I really like mine. I have played almost every modeler since the old blue-faced Vox Valvetronix and Fender Cybertwin came out decades ago. The Mustang has some great tones in it.

What are your thoughts on the v2 mustang 3

I love mine. Best $325 I've spent on an amp in recent times.

I did splurge on the additional 4 button footswitch so that brought the total cost to closer to $400.

The Celestion speaker sounds first rate and Celestions are my favorite 12" speakers.

The key is learning to modify the 20 amp models and combine the numerous effects to create your own sounds.

After a short time, I found that I only used 3 or 4 of the 20 vintage amps and 3 or 4 of the effects and that simplifies things a lot.

But you have to dig into the amp and create your own tones and erase the 80 or so factory presets that sound like 80's hair metal.

It's like owning a 100 channel amp! Although you quickly discover what your favorite amps and effects are.

Love mine. Versatility is pretty much the top priority for me and modeling amps were the only way I could afford to get that much of it (the alternatives being several tube amps, a really really expensive tube amp with tons of options, or an extensive pedalboard). I can get it to cover all the bases I need it to, especially after editing and creating presets. That said, I haven't played the new Mustang GT's or the Boss Katana to compare.

What's with the numbering system? Is there a chart somewhere that tells the differences between the various versions? How's V2 different than V1 and at what point do they jump to number 4?

The Mustang 4 is discontinued.

It's a stereo combo amp with 75 watts per side and it has two 12" Celestions.

V4? I'm guessing you mean the Mustang IV (i.e. Mustang "4")? That was the 2x12" combo. The Mustang V (i.e. "5") was the head.

"V1" vs "V2" has to do with the major update to the original Mustang line which included the addition of several amp and stomp box models on the V2, as well as some other tweaks to fix some user complaints from the first-gen (aka: V1) Mustangs. You can't update a V1 to a V2 from my understanding.

That said, if you are considering buying new, you should definitely still look at the Katana. The KTN-100 is the same price as a Mustang III. Even with the optional GA-FC footswitch, you're still in the same ballpark as the Mustang III + its footswitch
