Valveking 112 (Review)

Re: Valveking 112 (Review)

Valvekings are non biasing you must put in the same rated tubes not the same brand though. The Ruby power tube's suck in them replace them with some JJ 6l6's, it will open up the headroom a bunch especially when turned up. The JJ 12ax7 preamp tubes make it sound harsh those you'll have to change out to your taste. I play older metal with my VK 212 and put in groove tubes (relabled other brand tubes at a higher price but I could get them locally) I put a GT-12AT7 in the phase invertor a GT-ECC83-S in the clean and a GT-12AX7-R in the gain channel. Eminence speakers are a great fit for the VK amps I've heard good things about the Swamp thing aswell and the Texas heats aswell. I would change my stockers out for a set of Texas heats but I run through the board so I can just turn my amp up to where I like the sound and let the mains and power amp make it louder. If you haven't done it already get an EQ pedal at least a 7 band, but a 10 is better for the FX loop it brings the VK good vibes aswell. They take a little work to get the sound you want out of them but the VK's are a pretty versatile amp considering what they cost new. My only complaint is the reverb is kind of lame no matter what tank you put in it, the problem lies in how they have it wired.
