So... with my 2 minutes with it this afternoon, I can say this:

clean: not good. severely lacking transparency. a solid-state could beat it.

dirty: pretty good high gain sound. grainy, not crunchy (must be the 6L6? my ears are kinda spoiled to the El34 crunch). i have no complains with this channel.

I will have to spend more time with it.

Anyone has opinions on this amp?

Thanks!

Re: Valveking 112

I put TAD Longbottle 6l6's and 12at7's in place of all of the 12 ax7's. It tamed the buzziness of the preamp gain. Speaker change is a MUST in this amp. A vintage 30 or a Texas Heat was a major improvement over stock speaker. Over all, I didn't like it...on paper it looks like a killer amp. In reality.....bla to so-so even with the changes. Needless to say, I didn't keep it for very long.

Re: Valveking 112

we have one in the store i work at. i hated it, actually- Peavey's SS amps get a better 'tube sound' than this thing. It is really supposed to be a cheap entry into the tube sound, but it showcases the fact that just because it uses tubes, doesn't mean it sounds better. Honestly, if you have to change the tubes and the speaker, just save some money and get something else that sounds good out of the box, tube or SS.

Re: Valveking 112

Replaced the tubes with all JJ tesla tubes. Worked wonders for channel 2 and gave channel one a more woody tone. Got rid of the buzzy distortion and tightened the sound up considerably. Tried a celestion speaker, didn't make enough difference to leave it in.

Re: Valveking 112

The ValveKing is seriously popular in Soof Arrfrika, especially in the 18-30 age group !

Reason : ...everything else is stupidly expensive - eg. if you want to buy w. your UD Dollars, a Peavey Classic 30, you better bring $1100.00 with you sir !!!

$1100.00 for a Classic 30 - i kid you NOT !!!

SO, when it came to buying a valve amp for myself, i looked at the ValveKing, Classic 30 & Blues Jr.

. . . to make a long story short, i wnt with the Blues Jr.

Classic 30 waaay to expensive, and the VALVEKING did NOTHING for me !

I found the ValveKing, almost fake ("only because of a lack for a better word") . . . i got the impression that the amp tried to be something it was not, but that is only what my ears tried to tell me !

I'm sure they are actually good value for money (anywhere but here), if you go with the 2x12 !???

Re: Valveking 112

I love mine. I'll put it up against anybody else's amp any day. I have the head and cab though, not the combos. The combos did nothing for me either. I haven't changed out the speakers or the tubes yet because I don't feel the need, I will eventually though just to see what new possibilities there are. Also, The clean at 9 o clock on the volume knob and the bright switch in, is simply dazzling using my jazz in the neck of my SG. I honestly can't say enough about mine. To each their own though. I'm not trying to convert anyone.:)

+1 Element

I love mine. Yeah, the cleans leave something to be desired, but with the right pups, this thing can kill, especially under hi gain through a good cab.

it's gain channel sounds good to me. i'm just very concerned with the clean channel because i'll be using pedals for dirt.

Re: Valveking 112

Hey bro, I just picked up a DS1 for giggles today, and while the tone controls aren't very responsive on just the clean channel, when the distortion's kicked on, the eq seems to make way more of a difference, I think the clean channel is handling pedals pretty well so far. My Tubulator will be here soon, so that's something else I gotta' put to the test.
