Valvestate volume drop

Over the past couple of days, I've noticed that while playing through my old valvestate head, the volume will drop a little, then eventually come back. Could this be a wonky preamp tube? The last time it crapped out on me it went really quiet, and a new tube did the job. That one was in the amp for years before it was changed. This current one is an Electro Harmonix, and it was just put in back in September. Should I just go get a new tube and see if that does the trick? Think it could be anything else?

I've had the same problem on my 8200 200w bi-chorus head. It took some real digging on the internet but I found out that if you patch your effects send to the return the volume won't drop anymore. I have a stereo and a mono effects loop. I did this on the mono and it works. Hope that helps. /jeff

hmm i don't know if this will help

but last time i was playing through a valvestate 8080 combo
i had similar problems

the sound kept dying and farting out until no sound came from the amplifier..

as far as i can remember it was the problem with the speakers..

i actually liked the tone of the old valvestates
just that every one i've played had some reliability issues..

Yeah, it's totally unreliable. The sound gets extra fizzy when the volume drops too. I don't know that it will help him but it does work for me. I understand it sounds like snake oil though . Good sounding, wish it had a little more distotion. I think I may like it better than the 6505+ I just got but I haven't had ample time to compare yet. The Marshall is a lot more defined and you can hear each string. The 6505 kinda kills the character of my PRS singlecut.
