Van Halen Clip - Runnin' With The Devil

Here's a clip of the Bareknuckle VHII bridge pickup doing some Van Halen 1. I didn't want to nail the tone exactly though as that would've required post EQ and masking the real tone of the pickup/amp, so I left that intact. My guitar is in the left speaker until the solo when it switches to the right.

Yeah that was sortof the idea, but also there's parts where it doesn't sound like the original because I was being lazy and didnt play it tightly enough :laugh2:

Yeah I wish I'd started playing earlier though. I only picked up the guitar when I was 15, but i'd wanted to play for quite a bit before then. The major obstacle was saving up for a starter guitar, it took me ages just to get the money together for a Squier!!!!

Yeah I wish I'd started playing earlier though. I only picked up the guitar when I was 15, but i'd wanted to play for quite a bit before then. The major obstacle was saving up for a starter guitar, it took me ages just to get the money together for a Squier!!!!

I started at around 15 too..I'm 30 now..you're better than me when I was 17, that's for damn sure!

Thanks man, I need to concentrate more on improving my playing now though, as I've put learning/practicing aside for the past 6 months while I've been building and tweaking this amp - but now all that hard work seems to have paid off.

Thanks man, I need to concentrate more on improving my playing now though, as I've put learning/practicing aside for the past 6 months while I've been building and tweaking this amp - but now all that hard work seems to have paid off.

you BUILT that amp?? even more impressive

Yeah, I took a Marshall 1959slp, and gutted the circuit board, output transformer, preamp filter cap and preamp tubes - really using the chassis and headbox as a basis to start building the amp up again as it would've cost more to buy the chassis and headbox separately.

I fitted a Metroamp Dagnall clone OT, a dual 16uF preamp filter cap, a Metroamp PTP board with Sozo caps (the circuit of which I changed to a 67'-68' transistional Plexi), a pentode/triode switch, PPIMV and a mod that adds an extra tube gain stage (like the Caswell one) that is totally switchable in and out of the circuit leaving the stock tone intact when off.

I didn't start until 3 months before my 17th birthday,, so I feel your pain. I missed alot of good years. Oh well.. now I'm 34 and still doin it, no regrets.
