My setup is as follows:
Amp: Hughes and Kettner Tri-AmpIII
Guitar: Fender '62 (but I bought a Squier that I want to do this experiment on)
VH period: The F.U.C.K album era 90's
Someone used to have a clip of a twangbanger that sounded pretty EVH-ish (on toneninja.net? Kevlar3000?)
I was also thinking- a base plte under a single coil should give you more humbucker compression and mids and get you a little closer. With alnico 2 magnets the Twangbanger might be a good choice...
Exactly what I was going to suggest. That's the only thing on the market in a single-coil size that is remotely close to what he used in that era.Get a Dimarzio Tone Zone S , that should get you close.
He used a Tiesco Del Ray on "Finish what ya started", but a Strat in position 2 or 4 will get the job done too.He used a clean Strat on "Finish what ya started", and it still had the Eddie vibe... so I think tha you should jkust keep on working on his licks you'll get closer to the right area of tone - in terms of feel and touch - and that's also a hard task... add the right effects and that might even get you closer...
