Vanity Guitars

ehdwuld

A Ficus
So I was looking at the knockoff guitars on a Chinese website
And saw where they will do customs
And thought hmmmm...

I Could get a guitar made to my specs

With my logo on the headstock

Hmmmm

So what if I change pickups
Slap a new nut on
Or change tuners

What do y'all think

Re: Vanity Guitars

I think i lost the pictures but i know this guy who had a custom guitar made in china and man it looked awesome. I will find the pictures.

Re: Vanity Guitars

I talked to a fellow who will put my logo on
Stainless frets
Custom control lay out

And some other stuff

I'll post pics when it gets here

Re: Vanity Guitars

Just stay away from the cheapo Alibaba cloners.

I've played a custom designed axe that these guys built. http://www.rareelectricguitars.com/
It was well made but originally had come with cheap appointments of course.
Pickups & hardware were replaced with better stuff- as I remember it had BKP pickups and hardware by TonePros (or Faber, maybe?).
When I played it the thing was really nice.

Re: Vanity Guitars

I was looking at the Asian clone website
where the builders make copies of expensive guitars
some are horrible

Oh, that’s just great! [emoji33]

I’ll bet that it downloaded a little program that will cause his screen to flash a few times and put the whammy on poor ehdwuld, causing him to unwittingly report on the habits of guitarists around the world and open up the door for North Korea to put the music world into a tailspin.

20 bucks says that ehdwuld starts the next thread with a tonewood debate.

Don’t worry ehdwuld, we will all know that you no longer have control over your mind. We’ll make sure that we remember you as you were. [emoji20]

And for the record
I am on the mystery wood side ofthe tone wood debate
Luan and mahgony are the same to me
Basswood sounds fine in my opinion
I have a Swamp ash Les Paul with a maple neck

I am in the camp of "if it plays good and sounds good, it is good "

Photo flame on mystery wood is fine
Long as it doesn't have unpleasant odors
Skunkwood is a can't doo

Re: Vanity Guitars

Here is the guy i was talking to about custom chinese guitars. i cant remember what he paid for the white 7 string ibby copy but it was fair and from what i saw of the build pics they did a awesome job.

Re: Vanity Guitars

Copies of some pretty cool axes over there at rareelectricguitars. But they will also do ground-up custom guitars in any shape. And like I said, from what I saw the build quality was pretty darn good.

Not like the stuff from alibaba- their stock price may be climbing but I seriously doubt the quality of the guitars is going up.

PS: I don't get any malware warnings on rareelectric. But I have a script blocker that won't allow anything to run invisibly without my permission.

Re: Vanity Guitars

So it shipped this morning

Images from seller before shipping

And the headstock

He also put a control access plate on back.

It's hard to see cuz it's black

I'll post more when it arrives
Which should be around 2 weeks
The fabled slow boat from China

Re: Vanity Guitars

Here is my story. Wanted a guitar from a nameless brand,( maybe your a mind reader:scratchch ), it retails for $3000 cad special order aprox 2 months wait. Asked a retailer to see a quote for the guitar with the Floyd removed and tuneomatic/ stop bar instead. After a month the retailer heard back from the company, $6300 cad 3-4 month wait. Yeah no thanks.
Hmmmm Chinese? Well lets see. Send off email, with specs and say DO NOT PUT ANY BRAND LOGO OR SERIAL NUMBER ON THE GUITAR sub for this please. The next day received email " We can't build guitar. Select other."

Re: Vanity Guitars

Not too surprising that there are some things they can't build. I don't imagine making one with no logo would've been the hitch; the design might have been too exotic for them to take on. Or it might've been a CITES issue. I have no idea what the Chinese are doing about those restrictions.

Re: Vanity Guitars

Yea I didn't think the branding was the issue. I think the issue was set through construction and a body that has a lot going on curve and line wise. Cites wouldn't have been an issue.
I do like the fact they said they couldn't build it rather than taking my money and delivering perhaps something sub par.
