Vanity Guitars

Re: Vanity Guitars

It's here

I was a bit disappointed, wanted to check out the pickups before putting the Duncans in
But the rings are broke

They did put the locking tuners on, wonder why they didn't use the locking part?

When I went to pull the pickups. Three of the four inserts fell out

The pickup covers weren't what I expected either

But the neck is straight, fretwork is good, one tab hanging over on the bottom of the 3rd fret

Finish is great. It's not the archtop I was expecting
Looks like they chambered a solid body and cut a solid top on, then gouged out some F holes
Same as my Epiphone Florentine
Would have been nice if they had painted the raw edges of the F holes

The neck is filthy, the filler they used around the inlays is still on top of the inlays
I can clean that
Heck most all the issues can be sorted

Was going to put TS rings on with Duncan's anyways

There are some gouged on the nut that don't affect playability at all

Re: Vanity Guitars

Very cool, I like the blue finish. Interesting they hallowed out a solid guitar to make it "semi-hollow", hopefully that ends up still giving the sound you wanted!

Ya know , I already have a perfectly good Epiphone for that not hollow tone
Disappointment is the word

I can make it work out
I think I can use paper and glue to get the bridge inserts to stay in
One is tight. Two are snug enough not to fall out on their own
One will fall out if I hold the instrument upside down

I have pulled the pickups as they are "reliced" dented and grungy
Checked the resistance 8.23 for the neck and 8.63 for the bridge
No markings on back. Just more scratches

I have some black no hole standard size covers and a jb jazz set in standard
Also have a double black set with a trem sized jb

I think I will put the double black set in the green l.p. in my signature
And the covered set in the signature LP

With triple shot rings on both

Re: Vanity Guitars

Well got the anchors sorted out.
Wrapped paper around them then shoved them in the holes
They will still pop out , but ya gotta wanna

Dang I got three sets of JB /Jazz pickups
Three dbl black Jazz SH2
Two dbl black TB4
One SH4

Perhaps super-glue or wood filler could help you hold the anchors.

I think triple shot is a good idea, get as much as you can out of it.

Re: Vanity Guitars

Well it needs new rings and pickups
I have this setup on my RG2
And I love it

Heck I'll just do the same thing to the Gibson

The anchors are sorted , he drilled the holes at 12mm and the anchors were 11.5 mm
Should have done 11mm
He had a sliver of wood jammed in the holes that were snug

I got them tight just by wrapping paper round the anchor and mashing it in

Good and solid . Hopefully I won't have to take them out often

I was gonna glue them. Super glue turns loose on metal and wood over time
Wood glue won't bond to steel either

Re: Vanity Guitars

I was thinking wood filler to get it back to size 11, if you mixed in glue it should be stronger then redrill it back to the propersize. Perhaps not the best plan but that’s all I’m coming up with.

Yikes dude. My heart sank for you. I hope you don't end up putting more money in the guitar than what its worth. I have been burned by these knockoffs before. It's a worthy lesson tho. Best of luck.

We'll see if the Duncans pick it up
The neck feels great
More slim D like the Gibson instead of the slim C of the Epiphone

There is one tang on the third fret that just barely hangs over
No buzzes or dead spots

I have the pickups. Ordered the TS rings and a roller bridge
I should have it up and running this weekend

We'll find out

Re: Vanity Guitars

I think I’m paranoid...
And complicated...

Re: Vanity Guitars

Here is how I'm gonna look at this:

You got the shape and color requested, in basic solid functioning axe...at what price? A pair of rings, a new nut, a file here, and some wood/fill/shim on studs - while not "quality" or "Complete" could be one heck of a 90% deal at $400 - price of an Epiphone....

I probably put that much effort into all my guitars.
