I am unskilled at using the search function on the forum. If there is already a thread on this pedal please be kind enough to provide a link for me.
I have been looking for a delay pedal with a delay range to minimum 600ms and have grown to prefer the clarity of of digital delays. In my experience high quality digital delays with tone pots can approximate the warmth of analog delays with the added benefit of producing pristine repeats if so desired.
Right now my goal is to build a smaller board that I will use for electric/acoustic and acoustic guitars and need to find a delay basically in an MXR style or similarly sized enclosure. In spite of the fact that it's footprint is larger than I want I have a Maxxon AD999 that I could use, but the repeats are too dark for me. It is otherwise an incredible delay.
Can someone who owns or has used the Vapor Trail delay give me an idea how clear the repeats are? That is, where would you place them on a scale from a very pristine digital delay like a DD-3 to a dark delay like the AD999?
Also, do the delays distort or degrade in any way as they fade out?
Is the dry signal pure analog? I am not talking about the by-passed signal.
I have a DMM in storage (too large for this board) and an El Capistan on my main board but, as I said, I want something smaller for this board. It doesn't have to be faux tape or whatever, but the by-passed tone needs to be unaffected, and the repeats need to be reminiscent of the notes that originally generated them rather than pulses smothered in a cloud of cream gravy.
