Variations on a Theme By SD: Rod Magnet 3+3 59?

I am looking for a bright and articulate, but PAF-ish tone for the bridge for an ESP Ltd EC 1000. It has AP IIs in it right now. My tastes and amps have changed and they need to go. I will be using a Fender Super Champ X2 and Vox AC4. The guitar is very resonant with quite a bit of low end. The feel of the guitar is excellent for disciplined song creation, my focus for this pup. The style of songs would be the Smiths/Cure-ish. I don't want to be as bright as Johnny Marr, but I am looking for shimmering chords and articulate arpeggios while still having a PAF/LP flavor. I have done hours of research only to confuse myself more on pup choice. From past experience, I know that the Jazz is not a pickup I want. P90s are a bit too mid-focused. Will a 3+3 rod A5 magnet 59 give me what I want? (It sure would look cool). Thanks for any advice.

I think Robert smith uses 59's, they come with his signiture schecter anyway.

Thanks for the reply.

Porl Thompson had a signature Schecter that has SD HB101s in it. Duncan designed 59s? Robert Smith used a Woolsworth brand guitar then a Jazzmaster then a Fender Baritone VI.

I'm looking to get an articulate and bright PAF sound. The overall sonic landscape of my writing will mostly be a cross between the Smiths and the Cure with a PAF/LP flavor. I'll definitely be using some chorus!

I'll probably use a standard 59 in the neck.

A 3+3 rod magnet pickup will have little in common with a PAF and will not sound anything like one.

You have A2Ps and want brighter and more airy...I'd say Jazz so I must ask, what about the Jazz do you not want?

I have had neck and bridge in super strats and in hard tails. I have tried to like the Jazz, but it just isn't my cup of tea.

I understand what your saying but I gotta tell ya...more airy and bright than an Alnico II pro, but still PAF like nothing else in the Duncan line up comes close except the Jazz.

Maybe look in a completely different direction??

Ever try Filtertrons??

I haven't tried Filtertrons. They are on my radar. I have listened to clips, but the models never gave me a "that's the sound!" They cost about as much as a SD custom shop pup, too. :(

Also, I don't find the A2 pro humbuckers that bright, especially the neck pup. They HATE my AC4. Kinda like garlic and chocolate. Flavors that don't work together.
