Re: Vernon Reid's rig rundown - WTF

I thought Joe Bonamassas old rig was a little overkill, this makes his look a Les Paul into a Marshall lol!
There is no way you can dial all that in, it's too much back line to keep up with..
I agree, he has a crap tone anyway. I know know why..

Re: Vernon Reid's rig rundown - WTF

Ground control to major Vernon..... Yeah, saw them do a thing on youtube and looked like something NASA would have on his side of the stage..
As far as the interviews.. Yes, Rebecca asked good questions. The guy Ive seen doing interviews as of late sounds like he hasn't a clue..
and The one guy, (cant think of his name) tries to be mr cool rocker.. and he is a numbskull too.. "Hey Mr Vanhalen, what do call that bit*hen thing you do with both hands on the board?" "Two hand tapping." "Man, that's really rad man..right on..." Cheesy fake hipness.

Re: Vernon Reid's rig rundown - WTF

You should take a look at Adrian Belew or Robert Fripp's rig. To be fair, though, neither of them play what I'd call 'conventional guitar' so a conventional rig doesn't work for them. Good thing there are all types.

Re: Vernon Reid's rig rundown - WTF

True.. They are more very unconventional. The one that surprised me the most was Warren C's pedal board with DD.. was like a giant staircase.. Im guessing his rig was crazy too..

Re: Vernon Reid's rig rundown - WTF

It's got to be just step on something and see what happens.

There might actually be some truth to this, judging from the bit I watched. He had forgotten what was on his looper, and some of his pedals had incorrect levels (not surprising given that he has dozens). But I'm guessing that live he probably doesn't turn on stuff unless he's sure of the result. When I saw Living Colour recently - one of the best shows of my life, incidentally - he was in complete control.

There looks to be some method to the madness, though. It looks like each pedalboard is for a given amp. He's mixing tones in a way that's interesting for me, a one-amp kind of guy.

Chris Poland is another guy with a mind-boggling rig. His rack is like the size of a refrigerator.

I saw LC back in a tiny club at Jax Beach FLA when they were just starting to promote Vivid. (the cd with cult of personality on it.) he had pretty limited stuff that night. Was louder then heck tho. Wife literally could not hear for a week.. we were scared she was perm deaf..
