Very cool pedal shootout

Re: Very cool pedal shootout

I'm with the "this was useless" crowd.

All I saw was a bunch of pedals and got a relative tone from each. I could find some decent uses for all of them.

Here are some key problems
#1 serial order competition - you don't know how the pedals would do if selected in random order ans switched
#2 looks like a HUGE bias for anything with more bass
#3 Who are these guys and where did they come from?
#4 Are some of these pedals even DESIGNED for the same purpose? Ratt vs DS-1, sure. Jeckyl/Hyde vs Metalzone? Ummm - no.

Interesting listen though. Good relative comparison of basic sound/tone foundation. would have liked to know the amp and settings.

And as for the tone, I agree with Bill - it was ALL crap. amp to mega board to recording to Youtube to my speakers? Not any kind of recipe for sonic purity. Might have well of been listening underwater.

I think it was good for what it was, but my biggest gripes:

- Putting the Hyde 2nd to last gives it a much better chance of success. Especially with the metal zone after it only.
- Each pedal was series connected to one another... the best method would have been some type of loop in that the effective circuit was Guitar -> Buffer -> Pedal -> Amp. and the only thing being switched is the send/return to pedal 1 or pedal 2.

It was good for what it was. My favorite was the Box of Rock truthfully. I didn't find all of them to sound that crappy... maybe I have lower standards?

My fave as well- with the SOH a close second (I thought the BOR was more "amp like", but the SOH had an aggressiveness I liked just as much). I would like to have seen the voting between those two pedals.

I thought the voodo pedal they played first was kind of cool-distortion box meets fuzz-hendrixy kinda thing.

I've never been able to really get into a RAT. Several years ago, I believe I sold Christian (TGWIF) my original rat they are reissuing now for $200. I sold it to *someone* here. I never could get a decent sound out of it, unless I ran a Tubescreamer into it first

The other thing was that MZ sounded pretty awful modded, I cannot imagine how bad an unmodded one must sound

I'd also like tp point out the Overdrive box shootout they did was pretty cool as well for the oppposite reasons- nearly ALL of the overdrives sounded the same- VERY subtle differences.

Pardon me, Doctor, but I don't believe that was the point. The point was to place the SoH in the same league as these other fairly-well regarded pedals. It did just that. If and when I go to look into a new distortion pedal, I'll think about this pedal as well. I think that's as far as we can reasonably take a YouTube video.
