Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

frankfalbo

In Fluence Y'all
Here it is, folks, the infamous and elusive SH-9 Silverbird humbucker, having appeared in a Zion Silverbird guitar. As you can see, this one (like the only other 2 I've seen in my life) was wound by Maricela Juarez as indicated on the sticker.

Comes complete with plenty of lead, and the corresponding mounting ring. For those of you superfans out there, you know what this is. My pm gets full, you can email me through the forum.

$200 shipped, and it comes WITH the dead mint Zion catalog!

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Do you happen to have the baseplate dimensions? Does it fit in current larger Gibson bridge routes? Or must be in a Fender / Trembucker route? Or custom route?

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

The baseplate is just a standard SH baseplate. Not even a TB. The bobbins are wide like the El Diablo and Slug, but not likely to be wider than the Gibson route, since those routes are big enough for a pickup with a cover on it. The bobbins are not really wider than the baseplate. You might need the mounting ring (which is included) because it has that wider shape cutout. But they'll work in the Trembucker mounting ring too. But I've had it in 2 or 3 guitars and never had to route or Dremel anything.

Tonaly, how does it compare with the El Diablo?

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

It's nothing like the El Diablo, Iommi, Slug, etc. Currently the pickup is with a reviewer/blogger who is doing a write-up on it. That's part of the reason I put it up for sale now. He can either send it back to me in a couple days when he's done, or he can send it directly to one of YOU instead. But the tone was described as clear and bell-like by Zion. It's a very "big" sounding pickup.

As for the S logo, for those who hadn't already figured this out, these are the Tele Hot Stack bobbins as pictured below. That's why the bobbins are a little larger than a typical Humbucker bobbin. They are Tele sized.

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

I'm in now way bothered with this, but your friend used a picture of my Ibanez RS1010SL as his top picture on his review page. Thought it was funny, mine says 9NJ though wondering if that could be a neck pickup.

Anyway, here's a pic of the whole Ibanez, the SH9 is now out of it and is sitting on a shelf

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Hah that's pretty cool! I hadn't heard they ever made a neck model, but it's absolutely possible. Have you checked the D.C. resistance of yours? You can compare that with the specs this guy posted in his article. If the DCR is a good bit lower, then you'd have a neck version that could plane really cool for someone to pair with the bridge version.

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

I just found one of these SH-9 MJ wound Silverbirds today. Take a look at the post in the guitar forum.

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Ok guys time to make offers, I'm moving soon and if I don't get this gone I'm going to install it in one of my guitars! Then you'll ALL be sorry!

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Would you be open for trade by any chances? The more I think about it, the more I'm interested in getting one of those to pair with my neck SH-9.

I mostly have Dimarzios (Evolution, X2N, D-Activator X Neck) and an EMG (not sure which).

I'll be back at my place by the end of next week if all goes well, hit me up on here if you are interested. I also have a couple of pedals that could be interesting.

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Send me an email through the forum. Not interested in any of those pickups, but maybe pedals.

To everyone else, sorry for the unnecessary bump, but I'll consider some trades as well. Since we're moving August 1, for a trade I would send the pickup out now but request that you wait, and send me the trade after we're in the new house.

Even though he's got very few posts here, I can vouch for Vostre being a stand up guy. we know each other from amp-building forums... deal with confidence Frank.

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

what are you interested in for trade?
Well there aren't many pickups I need so pedals are probably better.

PSA everyone send me an email through this forum. Click on my name, then email. That's the best way to get me.

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Well this little pickup is coming my way! Couldn't resist the possibility of owning a set of those ahaha

Re: Very RARE SH-9 Silverbird "J"

Yep this is sold but I'll leave the thread intact as a reference since this is a pretty rare pickup.

Thanks for joining just to sell stuff.

Why didn't you just create your own "for sale" thread?
