Very RARE Yamaha guitar, help needed finding info!

Hello mates! A few months ago I acquired a 90's Yamaha Mg-MII Tak Matsumoto signature guitar (this the link from the Yamaha archives http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/guit...mii/index.html) through a trade but just now is when I'll get to swapping the electronics, cleaning it and giving a proper setup. However, something that really got to me was how difficult is to find info that is not in asian languages regarding the guitar.

The instrument is in very good conditions despite clearly being a players axe.

Anyhow, I would really appreciate if anyone could enlighten me on just how rare this guitar really is, cause I'm starting to think they don't exist This also makes putting a price to it really difficult

Japanese domestic market only, I suspect.

Everything points to that, even asian websites give me little or no information on the guitar. I think I'll email Yamaha USA, apparently they are very efficient dealing with customer via email.

my mate has a 1212s damn its a good guitar. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a rgx 621 but there rare now.

Love that guitar! The headstock is really unique - never see one quite like that. I like it even better than the RGZ headstock, which ain't too bad either. That body shape is also something I've not seen around these parts.

What kind of information are you looking for? Is it just so you can set a good price to resell it? If you're trying to maximize resale value on any vintage instrument, my advice is don't change out any of the electronics! Or at least remove everything intact (including the wiring harness) and include it in the sale.

I had a Yamaha yg1212, best guitar I've ever come across, period.

I have it up for sale but don't think I'll part with it unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse, there is a good level of craftsmanship to this guitar, my only bug with it is the lack of a tone control :-S

dont remember yamaha making a pointy type, but I DO remember adds showing that neck joint. Seems like it came out around the time of the Dana Scoop when everyone was trying to do something different.

I might look into the collect-ability of that before I went all iron wild on the insides, or be very careful when I did.

Well, everything points to this guitar being one of many japanese market exclusive, which does make perfect sense being a signature model for a japanese guitar player. I think its collectability depends on the buyer, it is clearly a very rare mid-range guitar outside of Japan, but over there is just "not common".

I think I'll keep it, it's like my own Ibanez JS but cooler and more unique, the sound is great too despite being ceramic pickups geared towards heavier rock they sound marvelously well through a clean amp.

It's the only guitar I ever slightly regret getting rid of :-S Though the awesome RM-Pro II Yamaha Floyd had some parts missing

Holy wow at both of those Yamahas. I would definitely have kept both! Yamaha these days isn't really analogous to great anything, but there definitely was a time where they made quality instruments.

This remains one of my favorite looking and playing basses ever.
