Very surprised that I like the Fulltone GT500 better than my Box of Rock!

Don't get me wrong. I love the Box of Rock because it IS a great pedal. To my ears I had issues with EQing it too bright or too dark. I had a hard time dialing in that perfect, meaty sound I have in my head.

Something told me to try a GT500 while I was at GC today and to make a long story short, I broke one of my rules and bought it. (I typically buy used).

The GT500 has the 3 band EQ on the distortion side that really works to nail the sound I want. It uses a wah inductor in the midrange control which at one end of the spectrum makes it one sound and at the other end you would think you are playing two different pedals. You can get the bright, bighting scooped sound or a real midrangy bite that stand way out. I can dial up the GT to sound exactly like the BoR, so nay sayers go pound sand if you think you cant. :beerchug: There IS a BoR inside the GT500.

I am not too overly thrilled with the OD side of the pedal, but plan on using it as a boost anyhow. I like how there is a switch that allows you to run either side of the GT500 into each other. You can put the OD after the distortion and set it as a solo boost or feed the OD into the distortion for all out war, with tons of extra gain and sustain on tap.

I absolutely would not hesitate to tell someone who was trying to decide between these two pedals to go for the Fulltone since it is way more versatile AND has a BoR lurking inside anyways.

I couldn't be happier. Plus I can free up some cash by selling the BoR. Do I have any takers?

How much for the BOR?

I've actually been *gasp* considering a GT500. It'd replace two pedal on my board. Have yet to try one though. I'm picky about ODs :(

^^^ Vexter model $200 new. GT500...$202 new.

Oh not bad! If you're willing to ship worldwide I may be interested, PM me?
Here in the UK the BOR is about 240 bucks and the Fulltone 320.

Clearly you guys must think I am stupid!

I don't even know what the word around town is on the GT500 and I guess I am glad because I let my ears do the deciding on this one.

I've never tried one but now I want too. I "liked" the BoR but that was about it. I do like pedals that do more than one thing, more options.
And yes we think you're stupid ;)

I liked the BoR but didn't think it was The Greatest.....different strokes for different folks :beerchug:

I remember mentioning the GT 500 a few weeks ago, while someone asked about Fulltone pedals and had several negative post.

I like this pedal and I am glad that you also like it.

PS: I also own the OCD and Fulldrive 2 pedals, but like the GT 500 better.

Are you still diggin' it. I've been checking them out since this post and it's got me gassing :)

I too have a GT-500 and like it, although I don't find myself using it much since I already have an amp or two that does the high gain thing.

If anything, I think it's the versitility that kills this pedal. Most people seem to want something that gives instant gratification, and the tone controls on this pedal can take some getting used to before you can really optimize it for your amp.

Unlike you however I actually like the boost side. It's great for taking a mild amp and making it slightly less mild.... when I use it I set my amp to play clean single notes and grinding chords. The OD side knocks up the grind without knocking me over the edge. If I want over the edge, well... that's what the distortion side is for.

I figure the pedal was meant for clean/nearly clean amps. That's why I don't use it much. It does make me want a Fat Boost II however.

I couldnt get anything but mud to come out of my GT500. I dunno. I think Mike Fuller LOVES bass and mud and a big sloppy low end. After recieving my GT500 and plugging in, I knew within minutes that I was gonna sell mine...

I love my OCD, but only if the gain knob is set at 10-11 o clock. Anything past noon, and it's mud-city on the low end.
