Vht Amp Thread

I am impressed with these amps.

I would like to discuss them. Pros, cons, how they compare to other brands. What styles they are good for?

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Pro's? Dude, it's a VHT.

Con's? Dude, I'm telling you, it's a VHT.

Many compare them to Bogner, ENGL, and Diezel.

What can you play with a VHT? Just about anything. They make a few different amps that do everything from modern metal, to blues, to funk, and rock.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

The only con is minor. The reverb on the CL series (I think Steve Fryette isn't making the CL with reverb anymore) really blows IMO. This is due to using an EF86 for the reverb. ANY degree of microphonic issues comes out crystal clean in the reverb. I personally find the reverb on my 100CL completely worthless. Other than that my 100CL gives my Bogner and Diezel a run for their money. If I was in an early VH cover band I'd probably use the VHT's green channel with is very similar to the Deliverance but with more gain.

VHT's support is pretty decent but not in the league with Diezel. Diezel customer service is absolutely outstanding. I have been using VHT stuff since 2003.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I had a 2/50/2 & GP-3...super nice gear, very well built, cleans were very good. I wouldn't say Fender pristine...just a different voice that was very nice...almost Hiwatt like.

Rhythm channel rocked & the lead channel smoked.

They make a head that is basically this set-up, but I'm not sure which one it is(the UL maybe?)....maybe RGN can say.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Ok, im shopping for amps again, and on the tone quest. After 5 years of not playing, no longer owning custom guitars and my modded jcm800, I have played a Diezel Vh4s, and it kicks ass. Alex Flouros has some excellent samples of what this thing can do and is right up my alley for tone and control and playability. Haven't played a Herbert yet, but looking for comparisons.
I'm familiar with Bogners and need to play an Ecstasy.
Now I need to listen to a VHT as well? What else while we are on boutique amps!??

I'm also noticing quite a few ADA MP1 players out there, and I'm curious because my ADA MP2 kicked my ADA MP1's ass for tone, I wish I could find one again! Where are the MP2 players?

Links to soundbites of the VHT would be awesome :)

Re: Vht Amp Thread

VHT is just another highend amplifier flavor in the vein of Bogner, Diezel, ENGL, Framus and the like. They're all fine high gain amps with their own thing going on. VHT has a dry, nasty (in a good way) overdriven tone that really appeals to some folks and lends itself to humbuckers IMHO. I know plenty of folks that love their Pittbulls, it's all a matter of taste.

Well said bro. I have a Pittbull 50/12 and thats a very accurate assessment. Awesome amp. My favorite of the ones I've owned thus far.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I played the 50 Watt Pitbull at GC yesterday - brought someone with me to confirm I wasn't trippin'

WOW - it seems it would be a good compliment to a Marshall or a Bogner. If I had to choose one amp, it would still be the Bogner Shiva, but this is a DAMN CLOSE second - I mean NECK AND NECK. The EQ is a MUST HAVE, evry active. The gain is sooooo rich, can saturate well, but still has dynamics and it cleans up well - very well.

I tried the Deliverance against a Soldano Avenger and Marshall JCM800 RI, and it struck me - both amps lacked something the other had, but the Deliverance was the BEST of BOTH. DAMN I WISH IT HAD AN FX LOOP!

Re: Vht Amp Thread

The Deliverance is a stripped down version of the Pitbull UL. Just get the UL, dude.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Definitely my favorite lead amps ever - I love the CL and the UL.

That said, if I added one to the stable... it'd probably be a Deliverance.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I have a VHT2502 power amp and really like it. I pair it with Mesa TriAxis. Nevertheless, I have only tried VHT Pitbull from its amp line up and do not like it. It's too dry for me.

That's my thoughts as well (I played one ironically yesterday as well). It just has really articulate high gain with a lot of balls and a great EQ system. I still liked my Shiva better (it seemed a bit warmer and the overdrive wasn't as dry, it's more of a creamy overdrive, but the VHT really rocked, even my singer thought it kicked).

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I have a vht pittbull clx 2x12 combo which is basically an ultra lead in combo format but instead of taking kt88's it takes either el34 or 6l6 (got el34s in right now). That amp can really do it all. I mean it is one of the few amps out there that isnt just a jack of all trades but a master too, and its so clean and tight, ya gotta love it!
Stick a boost in front of it and you are in metal heaven and at the same time the clean channel is AMAZING and warm!

yup i loves my vht

Re: Vht Amp Thread

i played the deliverance ,the Engl POwerball ,Engl Savage 120 and Daul Rec in the same day and i gave my 2 hours to test them.Deliverance is a really good amp but the drive is too "dry" and saturated. Not a grwol ,more a ...i can't explain it ,but the winner of the day was the powerball for my taste. The best ,richest ,fullest and still articulate amp.Maybe you would like the "sprecial edition" or the savage.Fx loops and midi onboard.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

i havent played the deliverance, but the amp never really caught my eye, as someone said already it seems just like a stripped down ul or cl, not really suited for metal at all without a boost in front of the amp or something.
When it comes to all out in your face crushing metal tone i would say the powerball has a slight edge over it in character, but the vht would cut better thru a mix, still have to decide which i would use live haha, but for anything else, the vht destroys the powerball, not that the powerball does a bad job, its just that the clean and crunch tones on the vht are stellar
