Vht Amp Thread

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I don't want to make this fine "vht" thread an Engl thread so i will not talk about them:)
i just wanted to tell my experience with the deliverence. It is not maybe "weak" ,but it doesn't have the balls what some others have.
I never played the Pittbull so i will make no comment.I heard it live but the band was not a metal band.so i can't have any opinions on it

Re: Vht Amp Thread

DRY? I just think they sound nice a rude in the mids like a Marshall but with more overall harmonic and total balance.

Now, they power amps - I am intrigued. I imagine they are amazing as well.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Their poweramps are CHOICE, dude. I have the 2/90/2.

The quality and thought into the design of the thing is AMAZING. Stevie really spends a lot of time making these amps.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I have a VHT 50 ST that I really like. Very versatile for gigging. No overdrive pedals needed. But I played the Deliverance the other day and I loved it! That thing just kills. I'm not a metal guy though. Just rock/hard rock for me. If it had a loop, I'd have it by now. Still will probably get one soon. Another point is that I played it through the D412 that it was designed for, so I'm sure that helped. It cleaned up so well with the twist of the volume knob. Wicked cool!!

It's hard to explain Olin ,with the same guitar ,same fingers and same riffs ,the deliverance has a fat but not "penetrating" midrange ,and it is something like...er ,i tweaked the eq about 30 minutes ,and the tone was good ,not "impressive" ,but better than the 5150.
But in the same room ,the powerball was like "shining" on every riff with it's deep growling low-mids and nice penetrating high-mids.And thats why i told about the Engl ,since i compared them for a long playing time ,and deliverance was "not" as "present" and inspiring as the Powerball. But that is just my tastee and i have a really bassy hearing.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I can imagine that if you like more saturation and grind with low end chunk, I would say Powerball from my limited auditons with the amp.

It is more a gain machine. VHT's are like high gain Marshalls with a little Boogie flavor in that they have potential for singing sustain etc. I am very torn on these amps and power amps. I have talked about trading my Framus Dragon for one.

Many Marshall die hards have raved about these to me for modern tones.

Speaking of 5150s, I am not the biggest fan of these amps. Great workingman's amps, but I am so used to my Shiva and Plexi, it just doesnt seem dynamic. I also never understand the Soldano comparisons, bc Soldanos seem richer IMHO - though they cost a TON!

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Also, remember that the Deliverence is designed to be a plug and play amp, free of all the bells and whistles the UL and CL/CLX have.

It is not designed for high gain. It will not take on a ENGL, Soldano, Bogner.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Inside on the circuit of a VHT deliverance. Found this picture recently on another amp building board I frequent:

vht_deliverance6.jpg

I hope thats a joke. I just hate it when amp builders think their designs are so revolutionary when 99% of tube amps all can trace their roots back to a free schematic found in an RCA receiving tube manual.

Either that, or someones afraid their going to get their circuit traced out and spread around the net like wildfire... :laugh2:

Anyways, this was way offtopic, just figured I;d share. Some people will find it humorous, like I did.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I'll have to break open a Deliverence at guitar center and check! hahaha

I think stevie did it as a joke. (at least I think so)

Xeah you found the right "word " for me OLIN.It was "dynamic".That was the "flaw" on the Deliverance. Not the amount of gain.!!

Re: Vht Amp Thread

Can anyone tell me the different models? Which ones are discontinued now, and how much they are worth USED?

I see so many "pitbulls" and "ultraleads" of different price ranges. The combos look interesting but you can't make them heads, can you?

Are there tonal differences?

Re: Vht Amp Thread

I owned a Pitbull 45 for a while and it was great for anything from country and blues to classic rock and some hard rock. I'd still own it if I was gigging and didn't live in an apartment now, but I sold it to a close friend so I could very well get it back in a year or two.

Re: Vht Amp Thread

It's called the Pitbull ultra lead (full name). And then there's the Pitbull CL, CLX, and CL50.

The Deliverence 60H and 120.

The classic series.

Only thing that has changed is the logo, VHT took out the reverb tank, you can add an EQ as an option, and there are a few different power amps (the 2/50/2, 2/90/2, 2100, 2150).

I think that's all?
