Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

I'm particularly interested in a shootout between the Fulltone MDV2 and the Dunlop Rotovibe. I've been listening to clips and such but would like some input from here.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

the fulltone is perfect, but i have not tried the dunlop. One thing i know about fulltone stuff is he does not cut any corners when it comes to build quality.

Can't argue with that any at all. All of the Fulltone stuff I've had in the past has been SOLID in build quality. The problem I'm running into is, I like how both sound on demos, but I don't have the scratch laying around to buy both and see which one is going to work best for me.

FTR, I have a hard time spending that kind of money on any pedal. I went back forth for 2 weeks on spending $170 on my wah lol. At least w/ either, I know they're both solid products, so that's making it an even harder decision.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

I'll take the Fulltone Deja Vibe any day. I love mine! The regular vibrato mode is kinda nice on the Deja as well - good for slightly seasick/anemic sounding stuff. The vibrato can sound pretty cool if you stack it with a chorus pedal - it yields really nice swirly clean sounds. I combine my Deja Vibe with an Arion SCH-1 and it KILLS.

Not sure if it matters, but they do make the Deja Vibe in a stereo version so you can run it with 2 amps.

I've not really taken that into consideration much. I've not really put a whole lot of thought into how my board is going to be wired up yet. It shouldn't be much of a problem as I'd probably run the wahs and vibe in front of the amp switcher.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

I have tried both of them and they are both pretty good. I would be happy using either one.... they both seemed well built and sounded great.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

I'm trying to work a deal with a guy over at HC for a Rotovibe. He's got a pretty good price on it and I could probably get most, if not all of my money back, if I decided the Fulltone better. It'll just take me a bit longer to acquire both....which is probably a bad idea lol.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

Ask Christian. I know he doesn't like any Fulltone products except the MDV2, which says something about how good it is.

I've also heard issues with the Dunlop about the noise being much more of an issue than it should with a pedal of this type.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

I'm always bugging C about one thing or another lol. He'll probably pop in here eventually. I'm not a huge fan of Fulltone stuff. Not so much that I don't like his products, but several years ago he proved to be a major Ahole.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

What's the deal with Mike Fuller being a jerk? I always hear stuff about him but never know specifics..... I've read about him blowing up on people but is that it?

There's several stories about him on the net for various things. I had a little head to head with him over a freaking wah inductor. A $40 part IIRC, I ordered one to build a wah, the one I got was bad, the place was out of stock because he pulled one of his temper tantrums and pulled his wah pots and inductors off the market for some reason. When I contacted him, he was all kinds of rude to me and told me that if I wanted a Fulltone wah, then I should just buy one instead of trying to copy one of his designs.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

Huh.....
How about the ole Micro Vibe??
And this talk about build quality from FT.....how is it any better than most other stuff in that pricerange??
Anyways....
That or dig up a Foxrox Aquavibe;)

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

you are right vasshu its not better than anything else in its price range for build quality, but it has top knotch builld quality nonetheless.
I cant remember you ever having said something positive about fulltone products despite the fact that pro musicians across the globe find their stuff to be good enough for them.
I know you make and design great pedals and i know you are a guru when it comes to electronics. Of that there is no doubt.
However I personally would take your posts a lot more seriously if they were not so often negative. Perhaps there is some professional jealousy in your posts.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

Why would anyone wanna take me seriously, any reason anyone should?
Guru in what, basic stuff?
There is nothing great in those pedals I make, they are just another brand in a universe full of them:)

Just as many pros and more uses Boss pedals...who cares?
What is topnotch...other than a relative term for most!
What should the jealousy come from, I'm neither insecure nor very fearful....

Methinks you should assume less.
And no worries, basicly I do not take the whole deal very serious, to me it is just a job, allthough I like to do my job good, but that is something else.
What others do is their headache, just because I make some stuff I am not entitled to have any personal views?

As said it is just effects, there is a billiard different brands out there....
Most of them are more alike than different.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

My ears were burning...now I know why! HA!:laugh2:

Just a quick note before we start...the Dunlop Rotovibe is not really a Univibe copy...

Also worth note I do not own a MDV2, I own a MDV.

That all said the Fulltone Vibe pedals are smokin...I hate to say it because I don't really care for Mike in general or a lot of the things he does but that has nothing to do with his pedals.

Fulltone pedals are very well made, well designed and well priced plus can be had just about anywhere these days.

I bought my MDV because I was on the wait list for an Aqua Vibe and was vibe less...several years down the road my name came up on the Aqua list and I've still never picked it up...the MDV is just fine!

The VL Micro Vibe is also a SMOKIN pedal thats WELL worth the price and is also very well made.

Dunlop does make a Univibe copy but it's called Uni-Vibe...the Rotovibe is really just a chorus pedal in a wah shell...if you want a Vibe pedal in a wah shell the MDV2 is the only option you have that I know of. I did try an MDV2 and dug it but clicking it on then hunting with my foot while playing for the speed I wanted wasn't for me so I stayed with the MDV.

Re: Vibe pedals....Fulltone vs. Dunlop

I was most pleased when I discovered that my BOSS Rotary Ensemble pedal (which I use for Leslie-ish simulation on a couple of songs) has a Univibe setting on it!

... man, is it terrible!! :)

Seriously, the Leslie simulations are good (not amazing), but the Univibe setting is reaaallly bad!!!

Thats too funny...I've been looking at Leslie sims lately and when I found on that the Boss did a vibe too I was excited...until I tried it!
