Vibrolux - how hot is it supposed to run?

I just got my beautiful ´76 Vibrolux Reverb back from my tech,

it´s in good-as-new shape both from the out - and the inside and the sound is beautiful.

The only thing that bothers me is that it runs pretty damn hot. Now I trust my tech 100% but how hot are these things supposed to run?

Correct me if I´m wrong but these don´t have an actual bias pot, just the balance pot between the two power tubes. So, I guess it all comes down to finding a good pair.

But how hot is ok and what´s too much?

All tubes amp run hot if you're talking about the temperature of the tubes.

You ought to get that balance pot replaced with a bias adjustment control...it's a very easy mod that any good tech could do for you.

a few BF amps I have run pretty hot with the stock tube compliment; most are the 35 watt models; Bandmaster, Pro Reverbs, etc...If the PT burns your fingers, I'd say that was too hot.

My tech told me about the mod, but since the amp is in such good condition I´m hesitant in modding it in any way.. It´s almost a closet classic on the out - and on the inside aswell, the power-tube change it got now was the first time it had been opened since ´76...

Maybe I´ll just drag it along for the week-long-gig starting tomorrow, and if it doesn´t catch fire during the week I´ll trust it the way it is..
