Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

I didn't expect to see it has EL34s (seems like most under-50 watters tend to go with 6L6s only). Everything is awesome! Everything is cool when you're part of a team!

It's a PCB amp, so it isn't "handmade"... There is no point in having PCB unless you have a robot stuffing the boards. The rest of the features sound great! I just can't get over the PCB for 800#... At that price, I can build a working killer 30-watt point to point handwired amp chassis that's gonna have so much depth and clarity... minus the enclosure which would cost just a bit more... Oh, and I use Hardwoods to build my cabinets, so they are beautiful as well... That's why the enclosures are not included because of wood and finish options...

Actually, £800 seems very competitive with similar amps from some of the big name manufacturers (which I'm pretty sure use PCBs at that price point too.)

I'd also guess that it would be pretty hard to build a point-to-point handwired amp with those features while fitting it into a small lightweight enclosure.

I probably wouldn't buy one as I don't need a high gain channel, so I'd rather pay less money for a simpler single channel amp, but it looks like it could be good for those who want these features.

30w with 2 EL34 or 6L6 sounds awesome. I'm a big fan of lower wattage amps with full size tubes because I've kind of soured on EL84 amps lately.

I know its a matter of semantics, but a PCB amp can be "handwired", however a true pt. 2 pt. turret or tag board amp is always "HARD" wired.
Hardwoods like Maple ,Oak, and Walnut for instance are cool for cabinets and the old ones in particular really sound fantrastic , but they do not give the same tone as the old 'soft' yellow pine and birch.

see.. I have moved away form the low watt amps ,at least Marshall, and love the high powered amps through 2 x 4x12 cabinets ( AKA 'full stack'). There is just a girth of tone and presence you cannot get otherwise. Once you got 100 watts pumping through 8x12" speakers, there is a sound that is just off the charts.Warning, you have to get lOUD!

At last...

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

boner.

I wanna know if it can handle serious high gain though.

I might not have to wait indefinitely for an Egnater Detroit anymore. The fact that it can handle EL34s or 6L6s is a HUUUUUUUUUUGE selling point.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Yeah... That sounded... Pretty damn good.

Sent from my iPad using a bunch of electrons, copper, and probably some fiber optic cable

it does, but with a player like that it's almost hard for me to tell. I get kinda lost in the tunes. it almost helps if the player sucks a bit, hehe.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Man, this thing sounds so much beefier, richer and just more pleasing than all the other 20-40W EL84 or 6v6 amps I'm checking out.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Dammit Chris, nothing else on the market is ticking all the boxes like this is for me. If the amount of gain on tap really is substantial, then that means:

- good price
- great tones/insanely awesome pedigree/super versatile
- big bottles + ability to run 6L6s or EL34s (presumably that also means it could run KT66s/KT77s/6CA7s, maybe even KT88s!)
- fx loop
- channels footswitchable
- awesome power scaling

Only thing that bugs me is the looks. I'm thinking, if I get one, I would probably get a custom headshell for it. Something along the lines of....
