Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Delivery dates have slipped slightly: As of today, Andertons are now forecasting 7th May, rather than the original 24th April, which then went to no forecast. So a little late to the store, but not by much. Not that it matters greatly to me, as I'm not back in the UK until September, so I wouldn't get my hands on one until then anyway.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

ditto. I keep checking youtube and the interweb at large every couple of days for a proper review :(

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Well here's a demo of the Silverback by Chappers, rather than an official Victory Amps demo. Can only assume that one for the Countess can't be too far behind.

Sounds pretty tasty.

I asked him whether he was expecting to demo the Countess on the YT page for the clip above - he was being a bit circumspect and answered that there were some questions he can't answer. I think that means 'yes'...

Lol excellent I will wait anxiously

Out in the wastelands of the Canadian wilderness, I have MacGyver'd a WiFi network out of birch bark, maple sap and a beaver pelt and thus posted using my Nexus7.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

Andertons are now saying next delivery on 1 June. I can't tell whether that's because they've sold out of what they were due to receive today, or because the VA shipping date has moved back - the question has been asked...

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

hm. maybe production delays..?

does it still say pre-order on the anderton's site?

nvm, it does. i bet it's production delays.

From Andertons in response to my query today

Hi Chris, the date currently displayed on the website is the most current from Victory. We'll obviously be letting you know of any new information regarding the arrival of the Countess, thanks!

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

not that unusual i guess, it is the 1st production run after all. I'd rather they keep pushing it back and getting the amps made correctly rather than to try and rush em out the door and halfass the build quality.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

this has me really curious now - why not more 30-watt amps with EL34's?? If this is truly a killer lower wattage marshall type head I would consider thinning my heard for it! It'd have to be a marshall killer though.

the designer, Martin Kidd, used to design for Cornford... so its heritage is pretty hard to tarnish.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

So........ I'm not entirely sure I'm gonna wait around indefinitely for a chance to try out a Victory.

I went to get some strings today and checked out an Engl Ironball. Surprisingly warm, beefy and tight for an EL84 amp. It's a serious tone machine and has just about all the specs I need from an amp including a really nice clean channel, and reverb.

It beat the piss out of a Blackstar 50W head I tried as well.

I also tried the Soul Food and was left feeling very MEH about it. I found it to be kinda sterile and brittle, and oddly thin/cold. not nearly as much character as I was expecting to hear. Also pretty damn noisy.

Re: Victory V30 "The Countess" 30w Valve Head

aw dammit.

More gain + reverb (Ironball) vs. More power + big bottles (V30)

argh. very difficult decision. They'd likely be about the same price here.
