Oh yeah, that feels really good right now.

After a week and a half of intense debugging I finally got the amp to stop humming. 95% of what I was hearing is gone.

The key was to separate the ground of each cap can and get them each to their own tab on the power star-ground...

Expect pics of the completed build soon...

Koshikas: my problem was related to the ground of my cap cans (filter caps). If you refer to this layout, you'll see that all three cap cans have to go to the same star-ground (power star-ground since this is a multi star ground approach) so I used a bus to link all three cap cans' grounds together and then connect the bus to the ground node. However, this created the hum I heard. To solve this, I had to connect all three cans independently each to a separate tab on the PT bolt... hope this helps your situation.

Weber amp kits

This is the 8CM100 kit (basically a JCM800 2203)

No clips so far (haven't even had a chance to really crank it) but will try to do a quick youtube vid when I find the time.

My problem with these is that it's just like with my pedal building: success brings addiction... I'm already thinking of which one I want to build next... dammit.

Wow, looks great. Not that it affects the cool appearance, but why not space out the knobs across the majority of the front panel - wouldn't that give you more room to work?

So does it sound like a killer Marshall or what?!

Yeah, sonfar it sounds really good.

Knobs: two things:
1- the chassis arrive pre-punched so I have nothing to do with the spacing;
2- when it comes to pots you really don't need more space to work with, it's just easy enough that way and limits the lenght fo the ground bus so minimizes the noise possibilities imho,
3- (yeah, I said two huh?), I think it'd look wonky with the knobs too far apart...

Now that is an awesome looking ENVY amplifier bro, congrats in completing the build. In my case I had sent my amp to get it recapped, because it was humming louder than the sounds it used to make. after the recap job, i have the volume back but the hummin, though much quieter is still louder than what it used to be. so i m thinkin that since the caps were replaced they are not grounded properly as in ur case. unfortunately where i live there no ppl who works exclusively with amps of this sort, and i m thinkin of fixing the thing myself :-P

That seems like a very plausible explanation in your situation.

I encourage you to fix it yourself, however, make sure to do it as safely as possible. There's alot of good info out there. If you can find my original build thread (called "and it's on), Vanderchuck put up a great link with lots of good info.

High voltages are not to be taken lightly as I'm sure you know. Better safe than sorry!
