Re: Villex Stratocaster Jack Replacement Booster

used the search button at the top of page
put in Villex

here are the results its been discussed alot
https://forum.seymourduncan.com/search.php?searchid=3049910

I checked out the search items and came back with more questions than answers.

Has anyone actually used one of these Villex things in the real world???

Also, how the hell can you have boost in a passive unit? Don't you need "active" to have boost? Sounds like horse feathers to me...

Re: Villex Stratocaster Jack Replacement Booster

I've met the guy and he seems very intelligent, he's always talking about how there is current in pickups that goes unused, and that he has ways of extracting it. This device probably works as described, but I haven't tried it myself.

Yep. I figured out my problem though. I have my search set to "Title Only". Once I changed that everything popped up like a boner on a wedding night.

Thanks.

Re: Villex Stratocaster Jack Replacement Booster

Greetings Gentlemen, tonequester here.

I have has the Villex, passive mid range booster jack on my "modcaster" for about a month now, and I wouldn't give it up. It does everything Mr. Villex said it would, and more. He spoke with me for almost an hour on the phone before I bought it, and to tell the truth, he sent it to me with NO CASH UP FRONT. I was a hard sell for the $112.00 price, and he told me to accept the jack, and if I was satisfied I could send him the money(and I sure did). He also told me, that if I liked it, he would be grateful if I "spread the word around", because I had mentioned being on several forums. A 5 year old could install it. No soldering. It took me less than 5 minutes to have it "up and running". I have 2 single coils and a stacked humbucker at the bridge position. It boosts each singly, or in combination. I used a millivoltmeter to check the output, and from 50HZ to 1100HZ it was a flat boost that averaged 170.33 mv. At 500HZ : before boost =219.3mv.....after boost =- 390.5mv. I know this method is crude, but I had no other way to check it, but with my ears. They are the most important concern, and I like what I hear. It has just enough boost(WITHOUT BATTERIES) for giving a solo some extra kick. Single coils and humbucker alike benefited from the circuit. Position 2 retained that "Strat sound" but boosted , while on my guitar, position 4(single coil/humbucker combination) was a special treat. I don't quite know how to explain it. It's almost like it fattened up the single coil, while giving the humbucker an edge. It just seems to blend their tones, while increasing output. A "hot" pick up can run over $200.00. The jack makes all three pickups hotter, with no power source, for $112.00. It may just be the increased output, but I seem to get more sustain as well. I find no fault in this mod, and am very glad that I not only got it, but have had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Villex. I'd recommend it to anyone without reserve. Hey, it actually gives a Strat with a 5-way : 2 output levels, and 10 tones to work with, even if a tone or two is a subtle change. Sincerely.....tonequester.

P.S. The "packaging" of this thing is a thing of beauty alone.

Re: Villex Stratocaster Jack Replacement Booster

Greetings from tonequester.

In regards to my post about the Villex booster jack, I guess I owe an apology for how I posted. I don't know what "bumped after 3 and a half years just for a review....1st time poster too....smells like...." means for sure. However, I do get the "smells like" part. I refuse to be insulted by this because evidently, I at least went over board or something. The truth of the matter is that I am truly new to forums, and even to computing in general. This isn't the first time that I have suspected that my posts were displeasing to some, and there have been a couple of times that they left no doubt. Although I have tried to get explanations as to complaints before(twice), no one yet has tried to "straighten me out". Did I "bump" someone out of place ? Is a review, which my post evidently is, something to be done elsewhere on the forum ? Does my post "smell like" s___, or does it "smell like" spam. I looked up spam, which I should have done long before. I figured that it was a junk mail kind of thing. Wikipedia says : "Spamming is the use of electronic message systems, to send bulk, unsolicited, messages indiscriminately". I will say that my post was not a bulk message, but one post. It was not done indiscriminately, although I do believe that I should have given it more thought before posting, and kept it shorter. However, I am not advertising squat ! I'm just a very satisfied customer, who replied to the questions that I read. Villex is in California, I am disabled in Kansas.

Once again, I apologize to those offended. I am 56 years old, and rather a dinosaur when it comes to new technology. I will admit that I joined this forum to learn, first of all. I also hoped to be able to share, and I guess that when I got the chance to do so, I got carried away. I will also say this. I left the forums that gave me a hard time because I don't have the time or inclination to be petty, and to argue. Until now, the forums have welcomed me, and I have been told the same thing on each one(because I asked), "no slamming here, great group of folks". That hasn't always been true, and why don't folks just skip reading posts that are too long, or commit some other error ? I sure do ! From now on, I believe that I will "keep my mouth shut" concerning others posts, and just post questions that might be helpful to me. However, as I said previously, if anyone wishes to advise me explicitly, or generally, I will be grateful, and try to understand. One thing is for sure...."I am in no way affiliated, or associated with Villex ! His jack is still well worth the $112.00.

Re: Villex Stratocaster Jack Replacement Booster

I've got 2 versions of the Villex boost.
One is the strat plate type the other is in my Anderson ... his VA boost is made by Villex.
Its subtle and useful.... 'nuff said.
