I just discovered my dream strat today, and while I'm in no position to buy anything, I realize this is the guitar I must own as a main player! :eek13:

I played a Sherwood Green Vintage Hot Rod 62 this morning for an hour, and it's the best strat they've come out with for my personal specs.

It comes in 3 color SB, Sherwood Green, and Olympic White. It's basically a 62 US strat with big beefy neck, flatter radius, medium jumbo frets crowned nicely, nitro finish, sweet pickups, and vintage hardware. All the specs I love. It sounded amazing. $1600 street price, but can be found discounted slightly.

I thought I liked the EJ strat till I played this today. I like it even more......being a fan of rosewood.....it's almost like the 60's counterpart to the EJ.

I've played the same model and color every time I'm in at the local store. It's an incredible guitar! The only thing that I don't like about it is the location of the truss rod adjustment. Take that away and it wouldn't be a '62 anymore.

Those sound like great specs. I'll check them out when my local stockist finally gets a new shipment. I don't have a strat right now, and I thought I'd be cool with that as I tend to play teles and gibson-style instruments, but the other day I plugged a nice one into my Victoria...

The best strat I've ever played was a completely stock sherwood green '62 strat. In '99 I could have bought that guitar from a local dealer for about 3K US. Of course, I was a student at the time.

Yeah, I can't wait till some of those hit the used market, when I'm on the hunt again. If I could get one for around $1200, I'd grab it. Some people don't care for green, but I love Sherwood Green........think vintage car. I especially like it with the stock mint green guard too.

I really don't need another strat, but maybe I'd ditch something like the G&L for it. I'd install my set of Surfer Custom/Surfers in that one, without a doubt.

i'm also a huge fan of the 62 starts and have been wishing Fender would have them with modern neck features... The flatter radius and medium frets sound great!!!! I also love Rosewood Board strats.... which is odd as for years all i ever wanted was maple boards..

I wish it came in Candy Red. But that Green is nice... i'm a sucker for Candy and metallic colours....

Not quite. My perfect idea for tele is:

- C shape neck
- Honey blonde/butterscotch blonde/aged natural w/ black pickguard
- Back contour
- Ash body
- Single coil bridge w/P-90, Jazz bridge bucker or 50s style neck s/c.

I'll eventually make myself one of these!!

Pretty soon, you'll see a bunch on the used market for $1300. Some people won't bond with that chunky neck like they thought they might. Chunky neck=bigger tone.

I saw a 3 color sunburst one next to the green one, and it was one of the best sunburst jobs I've seen on a strat.

They are nice specs. I only had one to compare. It played great. Silky and big chunky neck. But it sounded so thin and the damn fingerboard dye kept coming off on my fingertips. If you saw the cheap rosewood Fender uses for their US models, you wouldn't want it. I sent it back pronto.

The CS is pricey but you get what you pay for and the wood you see, is the wood you get.

I saw a Sherwood Green one at my local store and got to test it out. It was the nicest strat I have ever played. Too bad somebody bought it that same day. I think this strat is also on my wish list when I see one again. :)

How thick is the neck at the 1st fret? I ask because the early 60's strat necks and the 62 reissues have mostly been med C. Is it bigger than a regular 62 reissue. Thanks Joe, Mike

As a lefty I'm so jealous! Maybe Southpaw Guitars will get some of those? I agree,in that I Liked the specs and the looks of that strat....Saw a nice photo of one in the new Vintage Guitar magazine...

I've played the original '62 reissue, but hated the thin/low frets. It's nice that they've gonme to using jumbos. It's otherwise a great Strat. My freind has the '57 reissue which is great also.

That's what most people didn't like about regular American 62/57's. The neck was a puny C profile, which didn't make sense because most vintage strats I've tried had a regular C or thicker.

This new Hot Rod has a nice full C neck like many of the 65 Custom Shops.
The best feature is the flatter radius and slightly bigger frets.
I'm trying to sell my G&L Legacy Deluxe, which I rarely play, to get one of the Sherwood Green Hot Rod 62's. My Surfer Custom/Surfers will likely replace the stock pickups. The stock ones are pretty nice too, so I wouldn't sell those off.

Yeah, tried one of those HR '62's and was expecting the regular '62 RI neck, was very surprised at the thicker neck.
