The good thing about Gary and some more obscure artists is their gear and tone hasn't been disected 80 bazillion times over the past 40 years. Also Gary's always been pretty gear savvy and tends to talk about his gear alot. Some guitar players just have no clue about what they use.

I was just reading a HC review and the guy had a brand new guitar he put Duncan pups in..but he didn't know which ones they were. :smack: The next reviewer of the guitar was quite educated. He had DiMarzio Dirty Fingers in his Explorer :laugh2:

I'd be more inclined to look at the Seth Lover or go the Custom Shop route and get the Brobucker. The Brobucker nails the AC/DC tone. His higher gain today is more attributed to the amps he's used/using than the pickups.

Tried a Seth bridge in my SG -- yuck in that guitar (too bright). I think the 490t does a better job than the Seth. It's an A2 pickup like the Seth, but is a little hotter (8.5k?)

Eddie Van Halen.

This is starting to remind me of one of those "EVH" threads that pop up here all the time with all kinds of conflicting info :D

PS. Eddie used a Kort Les Paul with triple minis into a Fender Silverface champ for VH1. VH2 was the black B bender Tele.

I get the feeling that Angus uses an overwound bridge pickup...The BroBucker has been amazing in my SG since day 1....Best pickup to date that I've put into this guitar!

Throw those Gibson Anus Young pickups away, and get that niqqa a Brobucker! :fingersx:

Re: Vintage Angus

Angus does have good tone, especially some of the older mid-late 70's and early 80's. He's the reason I picked up the guitar and the reason I dont overdistort!

Isn't he still using JTM 45s with Plexis? Didn't think he changed anything? Maybe a Wizard amp in the mix or two,or is that Malcolm?
The both used Wizards live at one point, but that wasn't until the Ballbreaker tour i think. Both guys tended to use JTM45'sand the occasional JTM45/100 formost of theirrecording career. As both of these are tube rectified, you are going to get a fair bit of sag that you won't get with a Plexi. Listen to Ballbreaker. They had just had all of the JTM's totally refurbished and loaded with VERY expensive NOS Genelex Golden Lion KT66's. GREAT tone!!!:fingersx: You could probably get a very similar tone from one of the Metroamp JTM's. As for pickups, i bet a set of Wagner Fillmores or a Brobucker would get pretty darn close. And for the Malcom tone, use SRV style bridge cable strings.:laugh2:

Re: Vintage Angus

Ok, it's time to do some research on the BroBucker. How would you compare that to the Rio Grande BBQ bridge? That's been a popular choice for SG's.

Go with the Brobucker. You won't regret it.

Re: Vintage Angus

The Brobucker in my SG through my 50 watt 73 Marshall with my CM Plexitone had a bigtime Angus vibe the other night at our gig! It was a great tone, cutting, crunchy, and yet I always had great note clarity...Very inspiring..This BB is just nothing short of a phenomenal overall pickup and problem solver in this SG!

I almost passed on buying this pickup and now I wish I bought 2.

Re: Vintage Angus

How much does a Brobucker cost? What makes it.. "Bro"

and what's a good neck position for it?

(I too, love a little Angus in my guitar diet.. or actually.. alot.. I love that lead tone)

About $160

MJ named it that because a handful of us "Brothers" "Bros" put the money up to have these custom made to our specs....

Good neck pickups....PGN,59N.Jazz N

Do you have any clips where you're jammin' with the SG/Brobucker?

And this is a bridge pup that you are recommending to be used with a '59N or PGN?

I don't do clips...Yes I have the BB in the bridge and a DMZ VPAF N...I'd think the BB would be too powerful and overbearing in the neck?
