Nope. Wouldn't do it.

So? Still not worth it to me. You can do amazing things with the right mexi strat, and some SSL-1's.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

ok value price tho? anyone else? whyb or why not?

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

Good deal for him, crappy for you. The value just isn´t there.

An SD-2 can be had for under 100$ brand new, the vox costs about 180$ brand new, and the tokai is a "what you´re willing to pay" item that shouldn´t go over 300$ IMO

If you want his gear, sell the marshall on ebay and buy his stuff for cash. Should leave you with about 200 bucks for "whatever floats your boat".

This is of course just my opinion. That all said, I would never again part with a good sounding Marshall head, made that mistake before and spent years searching before I found my second 2204 which actually sounds better then the oneI got rid of in the early 90s whren I built my rack. I got lucky as hell on that one and to this day regard it as destiny.;)

Depends if you really need a VOX, an SD-1 and a Tokai and never used your DSL. I reckon you are better like above to sell the DSL and buy the above you need or similar or other stuff.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

thanks guys i really appreciate it. i will sell the DSL. now what is a good price to pay for a vintage tokai or even a modern one?

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

Yup. Sell the head then buy his stuff straight up.

SD-2's can be had for about $70 though... And the Ac4TV should be more like $140.

Depending on the condition and playability, I'd pay around $350 for a sweet Goldstar.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

you are asking about trading a really good-sounding and dependable professional-grade tube amplifier for a random old overdrive pedal, a 4w Chinese practice amp, and an old strat.

I would keep the Marshall and tell that guy to suck eggs.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

can you gig with a dsl? yes
can you gig with a 4 watt vox? no
does the old boss pedal sound any better than a newer (cheaper) one? no
do you really need an old strat copy? its not like they are hard to find.

If you want to sell your DSL, then by all means do it. They are popular amps and you will have cash in your pocket to get something you really want rather than a bunch of stuff that some guy doesn't want anymore. Otherwise, keep the DSL. Its a good sounding, hardworking, giggable pro piece of gear.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

Suggest to Mr. Boss/Vox/Tokai that he sells his unwanted items for cash and then makes you a realistic offer for your amplifier. Simples!

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

yeah... in my experience a guy offering a bunch of random stuff for a trade is a guy with a bunch of random stuff he doesn't like and can't get rid of, looking to unload it on somebody who doesn't know any better.

don't be this guy's chump.

Well spoken.

Sometimes you just don't know what you've got until it's gone. You've got a great amp, don't trade it away for that junk. Granted, the guitar could be really good, but in this market you could probably give that guy $250 and he'd take it.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

I gotta agree with everyone here. You're trading one nice piece of gear for 3 mediocre ones. I wouldn't do it.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

I wouldn't call any of the higher end early Eighties Tokai guitars mediocre. They embarrassed the poop out of the American Fenders of the day. Maybe, a pickup upgrade would be necessary but little else.

On a purely financial level, the figures in the OP's proposed gear exchange do not balance. Marshall against Tokai plus mucho Dollars might be more sensible.

Re: Vintage Boss Pedals, Tokai Goldstar and VOX. I need the BEST OF THE BEST in this

ohh MAN.. i wanna thank everyone very much for their input. this is what im talking about, goddayum i love u guys!! i do like my JCM 2000 DSL 100 but i gotta admit (and you guys will probably eat me alive for this but) i like my Marshall 8100 better :0 :) it just has that 80s sound to it and my jcm 2000 doesn't IMO, yea the jcm 2000 might have more dynamic mids and more natural sounding sounds but to my ears it is lacking the 80s background sound and requires much more maintenance than the 8100. even tho i have heard of the terrifying 8100 unfixable rumors mine just has like 2 knobs that are most likely dirty(how do you clean those out by the way?) and only needs 1 tube.(i can see why the brilliant, realist, Chuck Schuldiner chose this beast of an amp in soo many different levels) Anyone interested in buying this Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100? its from 1998 and is just the head. has two ecc marshall tubes and one mesa boogie tube, and 4 el34s. this amp might do other people better than it ever did for me.

Not at all, 8100s are possibly some of the best heads Marshall ever made tone wise. They may be SS, but they have a deep aggressive tone that is just classic Death metal, and the faster response of a SS amp (as opposed to the "sag" of a tube amp) is something many metalheads prefer. ;)

BTW, the pots can be cleaned with pot cleaner /pot wash ( a sprayable, alcohol based prodict designed specifically for cleaning pots, any decent electronics store should have it), and IIRC the amp runs just fine without the tube, too... I wouldn´t worry about ever swapping it out, though, preamp tubes last forever, and a different one will change nuances in the tone at best due to the low voltage it´s being run at.

*edit* Just did a little surfing to make sure I wasn´t spewing, and It appears that the general consensus is that the tube actually DOES have a noticable influence on the tone. While this is not the way I remember it, it´s another one of those Zerb "haven´t had my hands on one in 15 years" things, so I tend to believe the others are right in that regard.
