vintage carvin fans...

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Pics wouldnt load.
I would love a nice high end carvin, and thats for certain!

Re: vintage carvin fans...

I dig my Carvin, but not the M22SD it came with. Carvins are much nicer guitars with Duncans or Dimarzios in them.

Yeah, I once had a SC90 (all mahog with flame top) with a floyd that was alittle bright. I dropped in a PATB3 and that thing roared like a les paul! wow! Ive been singing PATB3 praises every since! I hated to sell that guitar..
Ill try the orig pup 1st since its an 86 but all orig. But I have a brand new Crazy 8 waiting! Or she'll get a SH15

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Ha! I've got a PATB-1n/PATB-3 combo in my DC127-T as well. :)

It also gets pretty close in character to my LP. Very cool, very underrated guitars. I've been dreaming of a Contour 66 for a while now. Maybe next year I'll pick one up.

Cool man, post a couple of snaps when you can, I always love seeing photos of your axes :p

Too funny! Ive wanted a contour 66 since they came out.. But, if I was ordering now, Id be torn between a Calif Carved or the V220!

KeeperSOS, You got it bro! Thanks! Ive been trying to decide what to part with. I have to move some things out . Prob sell one of my matching Epi LPs.
and maybe my gibson LP for starters.

Re: vintage carvin fans...

My new toy arrived today! Pretty good shape! Except for one scratch on the top by the trem, Id say its a 9. (darn!!) action is typical carvin low. Even withe the .011s. Its pretty light too. I cant wait to get off work and plug it up!

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Congrats, BloodRose.

Welcome back to the Carvin Club.

Be sure to post some pics!

Just remember that baby is all maple and probably about 11 lbs.

Should cut through a mix with no problems.

The SC90 needs to be equipeed with PATB-3's! I had one, really liked it a lot. It played great. But it was really edgy in the upper mids, and very thin in the bottom. It sounded thin and rather sterile compared to other guitars. I noticed in the reviews I'd read for the SC-90, those same comments always came up.

Now I sorta wish I still had that guitar. A PATB-3 would have made it come alive. But I traded it away on a really nice Hamer Monaco Super Pro. So I'm not too upset!

And I still have 3 Carvins, all of them keepers.

Congrats on scoring the DC125!

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Same here, right now I'm *almost* half-way through collecting them money to order a DC127T ( what can I say, a Floyd is an amazing piece of machinery that IMO also sounds great but, I still prefer the simplicity of a Wilkinson) so as much input as possible whose opinions, experiences and advice I trust is GREATLY appreciated ;)

Play it in good health man and don't forget to post a couple of pics after you've given it the "BloodRose treatment" ;)

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Well, plugged her up and its absolutely ferocious! This is much bigger sounding than the SC90 or the V220 I had. And yeah, cuts thru very well, but not too bright. The V220 was very bright and almost thin sounding...

This new one has .011s on it that I may change to .010s. The .011s arent too bad, but a switch to .010s may make it easier to play fast..

She is in really good shape for a 22 yr old. some very minor stuff and one scratch right above the bridge thats about 2 inches.. But the frets were recently dressed and have no sign of wear. Im a happy guy! The stock pup is ok but lacks warmth.. Maybe an SH15 in her future!!

here she is:

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Actually I use 11's.
I find them better for speed work.
With lighter gauges I find myself pushing the string, or there's too much warble to the string.
The 11's are stiffer, and the pick just seems to glide over it.
Bends are a ***** though.
But, I can do it.
Heck, SRV used 13's.

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Now that's what I'm talking about!
And I had missed (or forgotten) that it had a Kahler, nice touch!

You lucky guy.
Play it in good health bro!

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Thanks! Yeah, kahler FlyerII. One knob and one switch to split the coils. As far as the "bloodrose treatment", I'll put dunlop straplocks on it an will either put in my other Crazy 8, or try a new SH15. Maybe a black and white one. And Ill use my black leather strap with white lightening bolt..???
Otherwise, Im gonna leave her alone. She's real nice with a simple elegance.

It came with a nice hardshell carvin case..
Also, after a couple of hours, Ive gotten used to the .011s. No sweat. It still
plays easy with them and the action is low..

Re: vintage carvin fans...

Got some straplocks for her today. gonna have a few more jam sessions on it with stock pup. Im thinking of trying a TZ I have at the house.
