Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

Re: Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

Just like the RG550s shooting up out of the blue...

I wouldn't be suprised if they get up to the $1000 range too.

Re: Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

it's not a new thing at all. Charvel prices have all been going up for quite a few years now. if you think that's bad, that's an import you should see the prices of the real deal USA made charvels (san dimas made from '79 - ~'86) they get real scary. heck, san dimas charvel neck plates from the 80s are worth $400 alone.

Re: Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

i always wanted the early 80's start headstock Charvels!!!! i remember walking into a Toronto music store called Steve's around 1986 and they had a stand full of the old ones.... most of them were the same colour and had vintage trems and a single humbucker... if i remember right they were finnished in white and a light green colour but who knows.... i do remember the salesman telling me to grab one as soon as i can as they had bought a batch of them NOS from somewhere and when they were gone they were gone... i never did get one!

I do have a 1987 imported version.... cost me $200 4-5 years ago and it's like new... it's a Model 1 i've been told.... vintage trem, pointy headstock, single Jackson humbucker.. The frets were un-touched!!! whoever owned it kept it in the closet! Saddly there is a slight bit of damage to the point of the headstock but from the front you can't see that anyways...

If i could ever afford a cnc custom neck with that Model 1's necks profile i'd have that shape on all my strats!!!

Re: Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

Amazing is it not!! What KILLS me is I just snagged this one today for $300 shipped off ebayhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=220118157918&rd=1&rd=1 . These mid 90's USA Washburn MG's IMO blow the USA San Dimas Charvells away BIG time and are still DIRT CHEAP!!! In the early 90's Grover Jackson came over to run the Washburn USA Custom shop and they picked up a BUNCH of the best tecs from Hammer and Jackson in the Chicago shop to build these things.
The market prices are all about what is currently deemed cool and hot so I look off the beaten path and try to find quality that is relatively unknown. The Washburn Custom shop is TINY so there are so very few of these USA Custom MG's around so most don't know about them and how good they really are!!

Hey BR; If you get a chance, stop down to Don's Music over on N. Blanding. He's got a Charvel in there for like two-something. I think it was $219. I don't know one Charvel from another, though.

Re: Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

I grabbed a Charvel Fusion Plus ('90 or so, Japanese) for about $250 from a store a few years back. It needed some TLC, but once it got some care it is just smokin'. I have too many Charvels these days, I sold that one to my brother-in-law. He loves it (and the toothpaste logo). I still visit the guitar often, but I don't see many of those for sale anywhere.

I LOVE STEVE'S MUSIC!!! Been to both the one in TO and the one in Ottawa felt right at home!!! I'm pretty convinced the shop is named after me, cause I'm such a guitard god!!!!:D:bigok:

Re: Vintage Charvels going up and up!!

The $900 one was a perfect deal tho.. ALL orig hangtags and everything.

One of mine is in great shape aside for some light rash on the back and the trem arm isnt orig. (I had one made by frets on the net)

The second was nearly perfect. (even has orig chainsaw case) Very light rash on the back and a couple of tiny dings. BUT...it has a barely visible hairline crack on one side of the neck pocket.

Here's batman and robin:
