Vintage Deluxe Reverb vs. reissue

Trey Anastasio uses a blackface reverb deluxe from 1966. I was wondering if that '66 model (there's one on eBay for $1700) is $1000 better than the reissue. So, is the original vintage reverb deluxe worth the extra money?

Like I told you...IMO the originals are better, but not $1000.00 worth of better, but you should wait a while before buying ANYTHING else!!! :smack: :laugh2: :blackeye:

I have to agree. the original is always better but again not worth the diff in price. The average dope who hears you certainly cant tell the diff.

Of course. Most of the things I ask on here are to tuck away in the back of my brain for when I actually get around to buying the things.

Since all the component values and layout are supposedly the same, the only real difference would be the quality of the components. IE-transformer size, electrolytic capacitor size/quality, tone capacitor quality, etc.

The PCB doesn't make a REAL difference, unless you plan on swapping out parts on the board and tweaking it yourself.

Has anybody here taken a peek into the chassis? Details please!

I'll say this...I have played several of the reissue BF Fender amps and INO they all need new speakers and a killer set of tubes, but other that that they are pretty damn good amps!

Oh, then there's the tubes. The stock tubes are all lower end russian (i think) sovteks....you can do much better with GJ's picks-chinese 12ax7, LPS'es, and a better pair of 6V6's.

For the price of a vintage, you can grab two DRRI's, load them with Weber speakers, and run them in stereo!!!

The best way to buy a Deluxe Reverb, is to purchase a 70's silverface version, and do a few easy mods. I love my '77 and I consider it to be far superior to the reissues. I've got $400 invested in mine!

I bought a DRRI about 3 weeks ago and I love it. I've never heard the originals so I can't say if they're better or not. So if I'm missing something how would I know? All I know is I bought mine because I loved what I was hearing. Great little amp.

also a killer idea if you are the kind to tweak...I don't think I would ever spend the money of a BF Fender amp these days unless it was just a killer price, and the SF's are still pretty cheep!

I bought a DRRI with a 64 Jensen speaker and NOS GE tubes in it. The thing's a total tone machine.

A few months ago I got the chance to play an actual 1965 DR. Great amp! Tone for days! But for the $1100 price difference it was a hard sell.

I think I prefer having the DRRI. I'm not afraid to gig with it and use it for what it's made for.

EXACTLY why im not going vintage on my next buy. I'll be getting a TRRI with warranty and play it without worries at all, for once ill be able to focus 100% on music instead of crap gear.
