Vintage Fender reverb unit '63 ?

I have a '63 Fender reverb unit that I'd like to fix up w/ vintage parts. I tried this before but was somewhat unsuccessful. I'm looking to identify the mfg year, and to find parts. I think I found the cables and tank but can't find a vintage faceplate which is the real problem ( the current faceplate has a big hole drilled in it). I put in new replacement tank and cables but now want original vintage ones. Any suggestions where to obtain all this?

You'll likely never find a vintage Fender Reverb faceplate and if you do it'll cost as much as a reissue reverb unit.

If I were you i'd just get a good repro and be done with it.

Past the face plate what parts do you need?

I'll need the tank cables and the tank, as well as the power cord. These should be original vintage, not new replacements. I already have these new, but I was interested in true vintage parts.
I might just decide to sell as is with the new tank and cables. I have one offer of $375 right now. I don't know if I will do any better, only because of the faceplate as you said, it will be next to impossible to find a vintage faceplate.

Why in the world would you want a vintage power cable and reverb cables...they would be 40+ years ald and all dried out by now and really...whats the point??

Re: Vintage Fender reverb unit '63 ?

You might as well put a new cable on it- if you want to keep it-no qualified tech will work on it before putting on a modern 3 prong grounded cord. It even might be a law in some states. And putting on 3 prong cords hasn't seemed to bother vintage prices all that much, it's a pretty standard/accepted thing to do.

We'll keep the new cables, and the 3 prong that is already on it. Thought it might just be of more value with vintage. But the hole in the faceplate spoils any vintage upgrade, anyway.

Thanks all for the perspective. I'll sell it as is w/ the new upgrades.

Re: Vintage Fender reverb unit '63 ?

Why not just fix up the one you have and sell it, then go buy a vintage one?

It will probably be cheaper in the long run and you know its going to work & sound right.

Yeah I thought of doing just that. But I was thinking of getting a reissue for the newer circuits. I have to admit that when I use this unit as a pre-amp for my Traynor, it really cleans up that cheap scratchy sound heard on many cheap newer amps. It's so good in fact that I'd keep it, except for the old circuitry that's going to die soon, I'm sure.

Re: Vintage Fender reverb unit '63 ?

Why would the old circuitry die? I have a '64 tank and it works just fine and will probably do so for some time to come. I have a few other older amps going back to the late 40's that also work whenever I need them too (with basic maintenance). If somebody wants an old tank, they will pay a bit more than 375$ for the real deal, hole in the panel or not. The best part you could get for that thing is an old tank (they are around)...

If this guy dosn't buy for $375, the next round is to find an old tank, like you said. I have found a couple on e-bay, and they are not too expensive. The new tank I installed is an Accutronics 3 spring. I'm told that the older Gibbs tanks that were OEM on this unit have a bit warmer tone than the Accutronics.
