hi fellaz...i'm kinda going between Vintage Flat SSL-2 and Vintage Staggered SSL-1...I own a lefty strat with rosewood fingerboard and alder body.AndI've got an Little SL59-1 in the bridge pos and I aint using the mid.If people here used these pups before can give me same ideas bout em that'd be useful thnx yall.

if your neck radius is 9.5" or less, use the SSL-1s, if the radius is flatter, use SSL-2s

they both sound great, though ;)

no buddy absolutely not me why did you think that it's me:)?mine is 9.5” Radius (241 mm) so I'll go with the SSL-1 gottcha thanx friendz..:fing2:

At one time, I switched an a2 staggered vs. a2 flat strat pup and really couldn't tell much of a difference if any. I know there are some great ears out there who could, but for me I liked the vintage look of the staggered poles (I know, I know...).

But, for a lefty strat, I think you'd be better off with the flats as the staggereds wouldn't match the string orientation anyway. I may be wrong, but in my head, if you wired up a lefty strat pickguard with the staggered poles in the same alignment as they would be in the righty (i.e. lowered B string pole on the b string), the leads would be in the front of the pup. Maybe that wouldn't matter, but I'm thinking that is a recipe for some spaghetti junction.

In the end, the A5 ssl's are fantastic pickups, no matter their orientation. CA govt. approved as of yesterday!!!

thnx dude but I'm kinda confused now about that string orientation stuff...I've heard about thing a few tmies but is there really something like that i mean when you use a lefty one does that make a problem like that,i didnt have with the Lil 59...maybe because of the shape?

Well, the lil' 59 isn't vintage staggered, so it wouldn't have that problem ;)

If you look at a picture of the SSL1, you'll see the stagger of the polepieces is asymmetrical, meaning that if you stuck it in a left-handed guitar, you'd have to choose between having it upside down (as compared to normal), or having the wires going the wrong way under your pickguard, which could be messy.

yeah i got it before that shape thing,so what the hell am i supposed to do now?get an version of it made for the left handed players ,is there so?

Sorry, I wasn't sure if you got it before. Apparently there's a left-handed version of the SSL1, so it's no problem :)

If you used normal SSL1s, you'd have increased B-string response, and decreased A-string response. I would probably split the difference and use SSL2s instead. Some people really notice the difference in the staggers, some don't. I'm not a massive purist, but I think it'd make more sense to use flat profile magnets than pickups optimised for the opposite configuration :)

first thnx for the link but I'm only looking for the neck pos.so i'd betta go with the SSL2 s ha?but isnt there the same problem with the shape of both of em?by saying flat profile magnets you mean rails or that kinda pups?

I mean SSL2s, yeah. It wont be ideal (SSL1 lefties would be ideal), but it'll be better than SSL1 standards. I think you might have trouble finding individual SSL1 lefties on ebay, so I'd probably go with an SSL2.
