Re: Vintage guitars!
Cool thread. Many gorgeous pics here !
I have two solid bodies from the sixties, one Fender, one Gibson.
In 1994 I purchased a Fender Electric XII with money I got from an inheritance. I call it "1966", but it is more exactly a 1965 neck with a 66/67 serial number. The seller in the shop told me few people would buy an expensive 12 strings which kept the price from rising, a Stratocaster from the same era would be much more expensive.
The first time our drummer heard it a practise he said "Ditch your other guitar !" (a Charvel).
I recorded most of our 1996 TEAR OF A DOLL album (Experimental / Progressive Hardcore Punk) with that guitar like two takes panned L/R :

The other one is a strange story I was expatriate interpreter working for the ICRC (International Committee of Red Cross) in Myanmar. (For confidential reasons they needed a non-burmese that could speak burmese). One day at the Bangladesh border while showering in february with cold shower in a guesthouse with neither no lock nor light in the toilet (you hold a rope to keep the door close and of course bring your own toilet paper)... I had listened to the the first Sabbath the night because and loved so much to guitar tone. Then I decided under the cold shower I had to buy me a old SG after such work (I do not mention the confidential part, only the guesthouse)
Then during my leave in Paris (every year or year and a half) I went to Pigalle the electric guitar shop area hunting for an old SG but could see only new guitar all around. Then our singer Maya saw a 1968 SG Standard in a windowcase like two minutes before the attendant get the shop iron curtain down. We quickly plugged it and took it away !
Here in 2018 after a Stainless steel refret :
