Vintage JB?

I was changing out pickups in a friend of mines '80 gibson les paul. he told me i could have the bridge pickup as payment for doing the work. I agreed. The pickup was zebra, single conductor with braided shield, tall legs, and it had a sticker on the bottom that said "The JB Model".

Could anyone tell me about the older JB's? Is there any difference? And can anyone give me an idea of how old it is?

It sounds like it might be a few years old, but this has been talked about several times...the JB being made today is the same as an older one.
